(CEDAR RAPIDS, IA) – The African American Museum of Iowa is in the process of moving and protecting its collection, exhibit, and loan items. At this time, we can only accommodate volunteers with training in historic preservation or collections management. We thank everyone sincerely for their dedication and generosity toward the museum. At this stage in our emergency preparedness plan, the best thing interested volunteers can do is bring cardboard boxes to the museum and assist in sandbagging efforts.

People with trucks or SUV’s are encouraged to help fill and deliver sandbags to the museum. Volunteers can report to Newbo City Market, please bring a shovel.

We will need more volunteers as we progress through our emergency preparedness plan. Please continue checking our Twitter and Facebook accounts for updates.
