Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley made the following statement after speaking with a Department of Homeland Security official about the terrorists who were recently captured in Houston and Sacramento and entered the United States as refugees.
“The Obama administration keeps assuring the American people that they have nothing to worry about because the screening process for refugees from countries that harbor terrorists is tough and secure. Yet, we continue to see clear examples of the inadequate checks on people being resettled in the United States as refugees. There can be no questions about who we allow into the country. We must ensure that every person entering the United States is not associated with terrorist groups like ISIS. It’s the tallest of tasks for U.S. law enforcement and immigration officials because it only takes one mistake to wreak havoc on our country.
“The inability to provide complete assurance that the screening process leaves no holes is the basis for calls that many of us have made to, at least temporarily, suspend the refugee process for certain countries while focusing on helping those who are truly persecuted around the world. For the sake of national security, the President needs to heed the calls from the American people and rescind his proposal to admit thousands of Syrians through the Refugee Resettlement Program.”
