This past week, the U.S. House of Representatives proposed a tax bill that would have a disastrous effect on wind energy development in Iowa and the United States, threatening over 100,000 jobs. The proposed bill backs out of the bipartisan law that provides certainty and stability to the wind energy production tax credit, or PTC, a key federal policy that supports wind.

Wind energy is a huge economic boost in rural Iowa, including millions annually in lease payments to rural landowners, county tax revenue to support schools, hospitals, roads and bridges and jobs to build and maintain turbines. The proposed bill could jeopardize those benefits, as well as the 8,000 to 9,000 jobs in the wind industry held by Iowans.

It is crucial that you take action now. Contact your member of Congress and urge him to support Iowa investment and jobs by fully protecting the wind PTC and opposing the changes in the House tax reform bill.
