The up-and-coming yet already widely acclaimed country and Americana band Roanoke headlines the Redstone Room's RME Member Appreciation Show on July 18 in support of the group's self-titled album, a debut release by that The Huffington Post called “brimming with optimism, youthful exuberance, and creative energy.”
Based in Nashville, Roanoke originated when singer/songwriters and guitarists Joey Beesley and Taylor Dupuis decided to team up earlier this decade, intending to create rich harmonies and unforgettable songs of love, heartbreak, and exploration. They eventually found bandmates in mandolin player Zach Nowak, drummer Kyle Breese, and guitarist John Fiorentino, and as a quintet, Roanoke began to craft a signature sound boasting catchy melodies, roots instrumentation, and a blend of their individual cultural influences. While playing the Nashville club and festival scene, delighted word-of-mouth spread and led to the group enjoying frequent touring engagements, with Roanoke's current cross-country tour taking the musicians to North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. in the weeks following their Redstone Room set.
Audiences' collective excitement also led to the 2016 release of Roanoke, an album that has been showered with critical praise. NoDepression.com wrote, “Roanoke creates a sound that's both ageless and expressive, one that is so strikingly effusive it practically demands attention on the initial encounter.” Literally Darling stated, “No matter where you are, Roanoke will transport you to another place, be it a winding mountain road or a front-porch swing. Their roots run deep with the heart of country music, the soul of the blues, and the grit of Americana music.” And according to Mother Church Pew, “Roanoke is a wondrous concoction of every good thing about the genre – intricate string arrangements, captivating lurics, and stories that unfold through vocal beauty. With Americana music in the hands (and voices) of bands like Roanoke, roots and traditional country music are headed in the right direction.”
Recorded at East Nashville’s Ten Four Recording Company, the band wrote its new album Where I Roam while on an intimate songwriting retreat last summer at an isolated cabin in Harrison, Michigan. Where I Roam draws fresh lines and gives listeners a glimpse into the magic of the trip the band lovingly dubs, “the cabin sessions”. Where I Roam has been praised by Nashville’s WMOT, Blue Ridge, Outdoors, PopMatters.com, and Atwood magazine, which called it "a modern Americana sound full of dazzling harmonies and emotional nuance”. In addition to the member’s already diverse set of instruments, the band invited Jedidiah Lachmann, Carson Cody (Devon Gilfillian), John McNally, and producer Jesse Thompson to respectively add piano, violin, organ, pedal steel, lap steel, and 12-string guitar backing.
