Jim Gaffigan at the TaxSlayer Center -- August 15.

Wednesday, August 15, 7:30 p.m.

TaxSlayer Center, 1201 River Drive, Moline IL

An Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated comedian will make a rare area visit to the TaxSlayer Center on August 15, with the Moline venue presenting an evening with film, television, and standup star Jim Gaffigan, the bestselling author and multi-platinum-selling artist appearing in the latest stop on his acclaimed “The Fixer Upper Tour.”

Born in Elgin, Illinois, in 1966, Gaffigan earned a 1988 degree in finance from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, yet moved to New York City after graduation to pursue a career in comedy. He spent several years working in an advertising agency by day and spending evenings taking acting classes and performing open-mic nights, finally breaking through with a successful standup routine in The Late Show with David Letterman. The late-'90s found Gaffigan performing sets on the TV series Rock Candy, Just for Laughs, and Live at Jongleurs along with voicing a patient on Comedy Central's Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. But his fame was cemented with a trio of 2001 highlights: releasing his comedy-album debut Luigi's Doghouse, co-starring with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show, and appearing in the Broken Lizard cult comedy Super Troopers.

Since then, Gaffigan has received three Grammy nominations for Best Comedy Album – for 2013's Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe, 2015's Obsessed, and 2018's Cinco – and earned a 2016 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program for his contributions as a commentator on CBS This Morning. Gaffigan also received the American Comedy Awards' 2014 citation for Best Concert Comedian, and was nominated for another Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Broadband Comedy Program, serving as executive producer, writer, and lead actor of Pale Force. Currently touring in support of his new album Noble Ape, the comedian is also a much-lauded film actor whose vocal talents can currently be heard in Hotel Tyransylvania 3: Summer Vacatrion, with Gaffigan's film credits also including roles in Chappaquiddick, Super Troopers 2, Experimenter, and Away We Go.

Admission to Jim Gaffigan's 7:30 p.m. show is $35.75-59.75, and tickets to the August 15 evening of comedy are available by calling (800)745-3000 or visiting TaxSlayerCenter.com.
