Quad Cities, IA/IL — The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is honored to present the beloved and award-winning author of several fiction novels as part of the 2018-2019 Multicultural Speaker Series. Angela wrote the junior novelization of Disney Pixar’s animated film, Coco. This speaker series will focus on why representation matters and the importance of telling our stories. Cervantes will share her experiences, her journey to becoming a writer and offer diversity and inclusion takeaways for your organization.
The Multicultural Speaker Series seeks to provide an opportunity for attendees to enhance cultural awareness, increase integration into the community, and expand networks across community sectors. The Multicultural Speaker Series is sponsored by Black Hawk College, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges District and WQPT is a media sponsor.
The Multicultural Speaker Series will be held 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, Thursday, September 27th, 2018 at Stoney Creek Inn, 101 18th Street, Moline, IL 61265. Admittance for the event, which includes lunch, is $15 for Hispanic Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Group and Student rates are available. Angela Cervantes is the beloved and award-winning author of several middle grade fiction novels. Her first novel, Gaby, Lost and Found, was named Best Youth Chapter book by the International Latino Book Awards and a Bank Street College of Education’s Best Books of 2014. Angela’s second middle grade novel, Allie, First At Last, received a starred-review from Kirkus and was a finalist for Florida’s Sunshine State Young Readers Award. Angela also wrote the junior novelization of Disney Pixar’s animated film, Coco. Angela’s fifth novel, Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring, was released by Scholastic on March 27, 2018. Her next novel, Lety Out Loud, is a follow up to Gaby, Lost and Found, and will be released by Scholastic in 2019.
