The river’s crest was significantly reduced over the weekend.  The Mississippi River crested at 15.41 FT on Sunday, September 9 and is expected to drop to 14 FT by Sunday, September 16

 at this time.

The current river level is 15.41 FT.

Based on the current river level and crest projection, the following flood impacts and measures have been or will occur in the coming days.

Roads

  • S Concord is closed between Utah and River Dr, and Wapello and Miller are closed between Railroad Ave and S Concord. These roads will be re-opened as the river continues to fall and debris deposited by floodwaters can be cleared from the roadway; this will likely not occur until the week of September 17.

Recreation

  • The Riverfront Recreational Trail should be clean and fully re-opened late week, with the exception of the portion of trail between Marquette Landing and Credit Island. This section may not re-open until the following week depending on river level and debris/cleaning needs.
  • The boat dock at Credit Island was removed and will remain out for the remainder of the season.
  • The boat dock at Marquette Landing will be accessible for use later this week.
  • Credit Island should re-open to the public sometime Wednesday, September 12.

Facilities

  • Access to the Compost Facility, 2707 Railroad Ave, is available via Rockingham Rd/Hwy 22 to Wapello to Railroad Ave.
  • Modern Woodmen Park, the River’s Edge, the Freight House and Freight House Farmer’s Market, and Union Station remain open for business.

Events

  • There are no upcoming events that will be impacted.

Other Measures

  • Various pumps will be removed and gates re-opened as the river falls.

We do not anticipate issuing another flood update until Thursday, September 13 unless forecasted river levels change significantly.

Crews are monitoring conditions and are prepared to respond as needed.

Please obey traffic signs, and be reminded not to play, wade, walk, bike or drive through floodwater. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
