Saturday, November 10, 6 p.m.
Adler Theatre, 136 East Third Street, Davenport IA
The winner of six Grammy Awards and an incredible 28 GMA Dove Awards for his internationally revered gospel stylings, 82-year-old icon Bill Gaither brings his Gaither Vocal Band to Davenport's Adler Theatre on November 10, performing a concert of exhilarating southern-gospel tunes beloved by listeners and audiences over nearly four decades and three dozen albums.
Gaither's first vocal ensemble The Gaither Trio – composed of siblings Bill, Danny, and Mary Ann – originated in 1957, while Bill was still in college, and began performing at churches and other religions events. Five years later, Danny left the group to pursue a teaching career and Bill's wife Gloria joined in his place, with the new trio of Bill, Mary Ann, and Gloria Gaither responsible for the group's 1966 album debut Sincerely. With occasional changes in the lineup over the decades, Bill Gaither's trio recorded more than 30 additional albums between Sincerely and 1990's Hymn Classics, and beyond winning two Grammys and 17 Dove Awards, The Gaither Trio was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1999, having already been nicknamed the masters of “gospel feel-good music.”
The Gaither Vocal Band, meanwhile, made it recording debut with 1981's The New Gaither Vocal Band, and to date, has gone on to release 32 studio albums, 10 compilation albums, 14 video albums, and one live album. With 2009's Gaither Vocal Band Reunion a Billboard gospel-music chart-topper, the ensemble has enjoyed additional top-five bhits with albums such as Greatly Blesses, Reunited, God Is Good, and I Do Believe, with the musicians' most recent release 2017's We Have This Moment. The list of Gaither Vocal Band performers over the past 30 years reads like a who’s-who among the gospel-music industry’s best-loved voices, including Steve Green, Larnelle Harris, Mark Lowry, Michael English, and David Phelps. Currently, the Gaither Vocal Band roster is composed of five power-packed talents – Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles, and Reggie Smith – and has performed in many of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Sydney Opera House, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall.
Bill Gaither and his Gaither Vocal Band perform locally at 6 p.m. on November 10, admission is $26.50-$72.50, and tickets are available by calling (800)745-3000 or visiting AdlerTheatre.com.
