Sports and events offered for men and women ages 50+

WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (May 1, 2020) — The Iowa Sports Foundation has postponed the main weekend of the 2020 Iowa Senior Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 15 sports of the main weekend were scheduled for June 3-7 in West Des Moines. Replacement dates are to be determined.

The Granny Basketball state tournament, held as part of the main weekend of the Iowa Senior Games, has been canceled. The softball tournament scheduled for May 29 has also been canceled. Iowa Senior Games sports scheduled for July and August dates — including archery, cornhole, cycling road-race and time-trial, 5K/10K road race, and triathlon — are not affected at this time.

"The health, safety, and well-being of the Iowa Senior Games participants, volunteers, and spectators have been the top priority in the decision-making process. Directives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Iowa Department of Public Health regarding large gatherings and social-distancing, make it clear that postponing the main weekend of the Iowa Senior Games is best for everyone involved," said Chuck Long, CEO/Executive Director of the Iowa Senior Games. "We will continue to monitor the rapidly-evolving COVID-19 situation and will work with local and state officials to reschedule at a date that ensures the health and safety of all involved."

Participant and Volunteer registration for the affected Iowa Senior Games sports has been suspended until replacement dates are determined. Once new dates are set, communication via e-mail and social media will be used to notify participants. Participants who have already registered for the affected sports will be contacted directly regarding credits and refunds. Volunteers who will be impacted by schedule changes will be contacted directly.
