DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 8, 2020) — Scott County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Roxanna Moritz announced today that a post-election audit of the Iowa Primary Election verified the results from election night. The total votes cast for United States Senator on both the Democratic and Republican ballot that were hand counted during the audit were the same as those machine counted on election night. A three-member audit board conducted the hand-count of the votes cast for Davenport Precinct 33.
Iowa law gives the Iowa Secretary of State the authority to order post-election audits. An audit consists of hand-counting the votes which appears on the ballot, and comparing those results with the machine tabulation of those votes from election night.
Paul Pate, Iowa Secretary of State, informed county auditors that he would require an audit of the Primary Election for the position of United States Senator on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. The Secretary randomly picked a precinct in each county for the audit, including Davenport Precinct 33 for Scott County.
The audited results for Davenport Precinct 33 showed 60 total votes cast; including 11 for Joni Ernst, zero for Michael Franken, 12 for Kimberly Graham, 27 for Theresa Greenfield, 7 for Eddie J. Mauro, 2 for Cal Woods and one write-in.
