DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 9, 2023) — Gilda’s Club is offering a residential (overnight), in-person camp experience, at no cost, for children and teens (entering grades four through nine) impacted by cancer in their family. A collaborative camp partnership with Gilda’s Club Quad Cities, Camp Shalom, and Genesis Cancer Care Institute and will be held June 18-23.

We are still accepting applications. Applications will not be considered until all application components are complete. Priority will be given to first-time campers and those with a loved one in active treatment. A selection committee will determine camper eligibility no later than May 15, 2023, and families will be notified by the week of May 22, 2022.

Camp Genesis is 100% free to children impacted by cancer thanks to the generous support of Genesis Cancer Care Institute through funding from Genesis Foundation. This includes a free week of residential (overnight) camp at Camp Shalom in Maquoketa, Iowa, where they can get to know other kids impacted by cancer while also having fun with activities like archery, canoeing, rope courses, campfire circles, camp songs, swimming, etc. Camp Genesis also includes group activities with Gilda’s Club Quad Cities staff to talk about cancer and emotions.  Campers also take a day trip to learn through a hands-on tour of the Genesis Cancer Care Institute to meet with doctors and staff and see everything involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as time to ask questions in a safe environment to help make the cancer journey less frightening. As a parent, you will be able to know that your child is in a safe environment and build relationships with other campers who are going through similar situations.
