ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (November 6, 2024) — Clay DeBaillie, a Pre-Medicine, Chemistry major from Geneseo, Illinois, 61254, was selected Tuesday, November 5, to serve as an Augustana College Student Government Association (SGA) senator.
DeBaillie was elected Commuter Senator for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Augustana's SGA is an organization made up of over forty student representatives that have been elected to serve as the liaison between the student body and the faculty, staff, and administration of the college.
SGA's mission is to voice the needs and opinions of the student body in an effort to grow Augustana's academic, cultural, and social life. To do this, senators work in committees to develop changes in college policies, promote student-led initiatives, create awareness campaigns, and coordinate campus events.
A private college of the liberal-arts and sciences, Augustana enrolls 2,500 students on a 115-acre residential campus in the Quad Cities (pop 470,000) along the Mississippi River. Augustana prioritizes engaged learning in 100 majors, minors, and other academic programs, building each student's potential through customized success teams, hands-on learning, 170 student organizations, and 28 NCAA DIII athletic teams. The college also serves forty graduate-level students in a fully-accredited Master of Science in speech language-pathology program. Augustana's location and community partnerships provide students access to internships, jobs, student teaching, and research opportunities.
