ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (November 8, 2024) — Augustana College student members of the Augustana Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra performed a fall concert October 12 at Centennial Hall.
The orchestras were under the direction of Hisham Bravo Groover, assistant professor of music. The programs featured an eclectic mix of music, including Franz Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, George Walker's Lyric for Strings, and Leonard Bernstein's Three Dance Episodes from On the Town.
Groover said it was very exciting to be the first Augustana ensemble to perform this school year.
"This is a wonderfully diverse program featuring the music of Schubert, Walker, and Bernstein," he said. "It's a great opportunity for the Augustana Symphony Orchestra to show what's in store for its future."
Groover, new to Augustana this year, said there he is prioritizing a rehearsal environment that allows musicians to play their best.
"There is so much musical talent and curiosity in our student musicians, and I feel a great privilege and responsibility for enabling them to do their best," he said.
