Barreleye and Lazy Hex at Rozz-Tox -- September 23.

Wednesday, September 23, 8 p.m.

Rozz-Tox, 2108 Third Avenue, Rock Island IL

A pair of exciting, independent, Midwestern music projects, one of them based in the Quad Cities, shares the September 23 bill at Rozz-Tox, staffers at the Rock Island venue proud to present an evening with the trio of Barreleye and the quartet of Lazy Hex.

With the first-names-only band composed of Joseph on guitars, vocals, and electronics, Owen on drums and percussion, and Otis on electric piano, synthesizers, and mallets, Barreleye are a trio (bass and guitar / drums / electric piano and synthesizers) formed in 2019 in Urbana, Illinois. After spending several years cutting their teeth in the Illinois DIY show circuit, their previously sold-out "cult" debut cassette One Eye Glitters (2024) was recently reissued on LP by London, U.K.-based Kit Records in May 2026, mastered by Tortoise's John McEntire. In March 2026 they enjoyed their first tour accompanying indie darling Joe Glass (Sharp Pins) and have since made the storied leap touring the British Isles in June with fellow traveller D. Jean-Baptiste, joined by, among many other friends, post-pop angels Visit Me. All three are active in various groups and improvisation situations, notably the 'super conceptual noise duo' ecm and the elusive Shining Example. They like cats, dogs, and bickering.

Lazy Hex is an experimental sound project from the Quad Cities who have been recording and playing live since 2019, and in various configurations: solo, duo, and group. Using modular synths, contact mics/samples, and live instrumentation to create improvised soundscapes, each performance strives to be unique and unsettling. For Rozz-Tox's September 23 concert, Lazy Hex's set will be a group improvisation with Lucas Berns, Ryan Collins, Dennis Hockaday, and Marc Hans Showalter.

Barreleye and Lazy Hex perform their Rock Island engagement on September 23, admission to the 8 p.m. all-ages concert is $10-15, and more information and tickets are available by calling (309)200-0978 and visiting RozzTox.com.
