CornCon 12: “The 12 Chaos Monkeys of Cyber" at the Davenport RiverCenter -- October 2 and 3.

Founded in 2015 by the Quad Cities Cybersecurity Alliance and presented by the Docent Institute, the 12th-annual CornCon – an event designed to raise community awareness and provide business solutions for dealing with cybersecurity threats – will boast breakout sessions, expert speakers, panels, tutorials, vendors, a tech expo, children's activities, awards presentations, and more on October 2 and 3, this year's Davenport RiverCenter event titled The 12 Chaos Monkeys of Cyber. (CornCon 12 officially begins on Thursday, October 1 with the CISO Executive Summit; the event will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday.)
The Docent Institute is 501(c)(3) registered charitable non-profit educational institution based in Iowa, and is designed to provide technology outreach, inclusion, and STEM education for the betterment of society. Docent organizes STEM camps for K-12 students, cybersecurity challenges for college students, and the Midwest's premiere annual cybersecurity conference, CornCon. Docent provides college scholarships, mentoring, and performs other public outreach related to cybersecurity, technology, and the ethical use of technology, its founder Dr. John D. Johnson having taught and developed numerous cybersecurity graduate courses for St. Ambrose University, Excelsior College, and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges from 2003 to 2019.
At this year's CornCorn, roughly 60-class experts will share their knowledge on a wide range of cybersecurity topics, and as they follow one of four daily tracks, attendees are able to explore the latest innovations at the vendor expo, participate in training workshops, and build lasting connections at after-hours networking events. With more than two dozen breakout sessions taking place on Friday, participants can explore topics such as: "The Browser Is the Crime Scene: Red-Team Attacks and Blue-Team Forensics"; Attack Vectors & AI: How to Make Your Business a Hard Target"; "Training for Skills, Not Knowledge: Building the Cyber Workforce in the AI Era"; "Finding Bugs Is Easy, Patching Isn't: Build Your Own Remediation Pipeline"; and "Of MICE and Men: What Cold War Spy Craft Teaches Us About Modern Inside Threats."
A roughly equal number of sessions will be taking place on Saturday, with subjects including: "Why Hack Computers When You Can Hack Minds? Cognitive Security, MetaWAR, and the New Attack Surface"; "AI Governance Without Handcuffs: Enabling Innovation While Managing Risk"; "Living Off the Tenant: Hunting the Entra Application Identities Attackers Abuse"; "Ten Principles, One Culture: Reading Hacker Ethics Through Burning Man"; and "From Secure-by-Design to Abuse-by-Design: Why Modern Systems Fail in Ways We Don’t Model."
In addition to the two days of workshops, lectures, and breakout sessions for adults,The 12 Chaos Monkeys of Cyber will host CornCon's annual “Children of the CornCon” on October 3 – a kids' hacker camp and STEM festival for grades kindergarten through 12. With activities running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can enjoy contests, prizes, lunch, a capture-the-flag competition, soldering projects, coding activities, a Hacker Jeopardy 4 Kidz event, games, puzzles, and more. All ages, meanwhile, are invited to Saturday evening's “Bill Murray After Party” from 7 to 10 p.m. a family-event for badge holders taking place on the rooftop of Davenport's neighboring venue The Last Picture House (325 East Second Street).
