MACOMB/MOLINE, ILLINOIS (September 22, 2026) — Western Illinois University continues to earn recognition for its academic excellence and commitment to student success in the 2027 US News and World Report Best Colleges rankings.
WIU earned recognition in two categories on US News and World Report's 2027 Best Colleges badge-eligible list, including Regional Universities in the Midwest and Top Public Schools (N° 20 — tied) — Regional Universities in the Midwest.
WIU President Kristi Mindrup commended the University community, including faculty, staff, and students, for their continued efforts to provide a quality educational experience.
“Recognition from US News and World Report reflects the continued commitment of our faculty and staff to provide an accessible, high-quality educational experience that creates meaningful opportunities for our students. I am proud of the work happening across Western Illinois University and, most importantly, of our students, whose success reminds us every day about the positive impact of our work on students, our region and the state of Illinois,” Pres Mindrup said.
The US News Best Colleges rankings evaluate institutions using multiple factors, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, faculty resources, financial resources, student excellence, and alumni giving.
The rankings recognize institutions for their academic offerings and efforts to support student success.
