MOLINE, ILLINOIS (October 5, 2026) — Western Illinois University’s Museum Studies program will host its first microcredential workshop, “Museum and Technology,” 9AM-3:30PM, Wednesday, November 4, at WIU-Quad Cities, with an option to participate live via Zoom.

The workshop is part of the Museum Studies Graduate Program’s Building Capacity Through Apprenticeship and Microcredentials: An Integrated Workforce Development Model for Museum Professionals initiative. The program was awarded a $249,694 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to support the initiative.

"We're excited to launch the first of several microcredential workshops we'll offer over the next three years," said WIU Museum Studies Director Heidi Lung.

"This first workshop focuses on technology and gives museum professionals a chance to try digital tools firsthand and build a practical understanding of AI, so they can make informed decisions about what fits their institutions."

The “Museum and Technology” workshop will feature two sessions focused on technology and its applications in the museum field. The morning session, led by Kelly Kniewel, will explore eAtlas Adventures. The afternoon session, led by Wilson M Rojas, will focus on AI literacy.

Participants will gain hands-on experience with tools designed to engage museum audiences, as well as a practical introduction to artificial intelligence and its applications in the day-to-day work of museum professionals.

Registration is $75 for in-person participation, which includes morning coffee and lunch, and $50 for online participation. Online registration includes a live stream, links to presentations and access to virtual breakout room activities.

Registration is required and is available at form.jotform.com/262715806150050. For more information on the workshop and upcoming workshops, visit https://www.wiu.edu/museummicrocredential.
