ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (October 12, 2026) — ThePlace2B, a youth program of YWCA Quad Cities, will host a College Readiness Workshop on Wednesday, October 28, 5:30-7:30PM, at YWCA Quad Cities, 513 17th St, Rock Island.
The free workshop is designed to help first-generation college students and their families better understand the college application and financial aid process. The presentation will be available in both English and Spanish. All first-generation college students and their families are welcome!
Attendees will receive practical guidance on important steps in preparing for college, including completing the FAFSA, creating an FSA ID, navigating college applications, preparing scholarship applications, and identifying scholarship opportunities.
“Applying for college can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re the first in your family to navigate the process,” said Edwin Salazar, Director of Youth Development and Engagement.
“We want students and families to leave this workshop feeling more confident, informed, and prepared to take that next step.”
The workshop will also provide an opportunity for students and families to connect with Black and Latino college graduates and professionals who can share their experiences, answer questions, and offer guidance about navigating higher education.
Laptops will be available for students who need one to create their FAFSA ID and get started with the FAFSA, though attendees are welcome to bring their own devices. Food and drinks will be provided by Coyas Cafe.
“This workshop is about making sure students know they don’t have to navigate the college process alone,” Salazar said.
“Having access to information, resources, and people who have been through the process can make a meaningful difference.”
Students and families can register by visiting ywcaqc.org.
