"Bringing It Home" to screen in Davenport

November 5, 2013 ? Davenport, Iowa ? Legislative victories in Kentucky, Colorado and Washington have sparked national media awareness and conversation about industrial hemp. But what's preventing the U.S. from joining other industrialized nations that grow this crop?

A screening of "Bringing It Home" will be hosted by Iowa Hemp for Victory on November 16, 2013, at Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport. The screening will also include a Q&A Session, complimentary hemp food and drink samples, and an informative Iowa hemp history display exhibit.

More industrial hemp fiber, seed and oil is exported to the U.S. than to any other country and American consumers are purchasing over $450 million in hemp products annually. The hour-long documentary Bringing It Home explores the question of why a crop with so many widespread benefits cannot be farmed in the United States by exploring its history, industries and current farming legalization efforts.

Filmmakers Linda Booker and Blaire Johnson were inspired by environmentally-conscious home designer Anthony Brenner's story to find the healthiest building material available to build a safe indoor environment for his young daughter Bailey, who has a sensitivity to synthetic chemicals.

Brenner received national media attention when he and Hemp Technologies completed "America's First Hemp House" for the former mayor of Asheville, North Carolina. Booker and Johnson tell the story of hemp through animation, archival images and footage they filmed with hemp business leaders and entrepreneurs like Brenner in England, Spain, Washington D.C., California and North Carolina.

In the first few months of 2013, eighteen states introduced industrial hemp legislation. "We made Bringing It Home with the intention of reaching a broad spectrum of viewers - from policy makers and civic groups, to farmers and health advocates, from consumers to the construction industry -with the same strategic message about how hemp offers solutions and hope," says filmmaker Linda Booker.

The documentary aims to magnify dialogue and legislative action about hemp in order to facilitate America's transition to a more informed, sustainable, and healthy future.

The screening of "Bringing It Home" in Davenport is part of a national grassroots screening tour of the film across the country, which began with the film's premiere during Hemp History Week in June 2013, and will continue into 2014.

Iowa Hemp for Victory is hosting the film as part of its mission to raise awareness and promote the hemp industry in Iowa, which once housed eleven hemp processing mills during the Federal Government's "Hemp for Victory" program.

2Leaf Press is pleased to announce the release of British poet A.Robert Lee's fourth poetry collection, IMAGINARIUM: SIGHTINGS, GALLERIES, SIGHTLINES.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/05/2013 -- IMAGINARIUM: SIGHTINGS, GALLERIES, SIGHTLINES is A. Robert Lee's latest collection of poetry published by 2Leaf Press.

IMAGINARIUM explores the "Sightings," Galleries" and "Sightlines" of one's imagination. The term "imaginarium" refers to a "place" devoted to stimulating and cultivating the imagination, towards scientific, artistic, commercial, recreational, or a spiritual end. In this collection, Lee explores two connecting keynotes: imagination and sight that explores the way we go about imagining as much as seeing reality.

Lee goes about this using an ekphrastic approach by commemorating a dozen or so celebrated visual artists and their works, among them J.M.W. Turner and Frida Kahlo. He extends the usual meaning of the term to include vantage-points like a French archeological cave, and then expertly frames a run of personal encounters within the heights and widths of buildings and landscapes.

Early reviews for IMAGINARIUM are promising. Anne Waldman, the author of more than 40 collections of poetry and poetics, says: "A voyage with the ever present panoramic A. Robert Lee-- poet, cultural historian, critical writer. This collection is a cartography, a call and response, a resonance and a celebration of "meticulous horizontals", "Einsteinian screams" and other luscious optics and beloved poetries. I appreciate the close reading, scholarship, and delight of these imaginariums."

A. Robert Lee is a retired English Professor who has taught in Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. Internationally-known for both his academic works in multicultural literature. IMAGINARIUM is his fourth book of poetry. British-born, he currently lives in Murcia, Spain.

One part biographical and one part historical re-imagining, IMAGINARIUM: SIGHTINGS, GALLERIES, SIGHTLINES is a delightful yet informative collection that invites readers into a two-way exchange, imagination as seeing, seeing as imagination.

IMAGINARIUM: SIGHTINGS, GALLERIES, SIGHTLINES is available in paperback on Amazon.com for $16.99 and other online outlets. An eBook edition will be available in January 2014.

This is the second in a series of twelve novels which follows six individuals who play a crucial role in the fulfillment of an apocalyptic prophecy

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - From the fertile imagination of author Yvette Araujo comes "Origin," an apocalyptic novel opens the thoughts of readers to aspects of life they never thought about. With a compelling and unpredictable story arc, this work of fiction explores the human condition in a setting so desolate. It cleverly melds fiction, history and religion to present a convincing portrait of the end of days.

Set against the backdrop of fictional cities of Modos and Harramog, this book follows the plight of six ordinary people who have long met their demise. Not knowing they are dead and are ancient beings from a million years ago, they now face the age old prophecy of the end of days. These characters are in conflict and torn between their past human lives and their new lives as protectors of mankind. Now, they are part of each other and without each of their supernatural powers, they cannot succeed in fulfilling the prophecy.

An excerpt from "Origin":

Zane watched as Morningstar's beauty transformed into The Red Beast?eyes that once glowed with brilliance, turned black and hollow and devoid of the light.

Morningstar disappeared and was immediately delivered on his knees before Him. Morningstar tried to stand but could not rise. In a language only known to the angels, Morningstar was told that the name Morningstar would never be spoken again, and would be forgotten by all. Morningstar, once an angel of amazing beauty, became a stone figure that fell to ash.

With the battle of good versus evil taken to new heights, this book examines different cultures and religions and how people perceive differences. Packed with action, tension and scenes of dystopia, "Origin" is a page-turner certain to please fiction fans and enthusiasts.

A cross country bicycle trip mired, bolstered by life reflections

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. - The autobiography of Thomas A. Reis, "Headwinds: The Dead Reckoning of the Heart" (published by AuthorHouse) is a story of perseverance and overcoming, a journey into meaning and hope.

In 1981, at 22 years old, Reis embarked on a solo, 58-day bicycle trip from Florence, Ore. to Chesapeake Bay, Va covering almost 4,000 miles. The journey within proved much greater than his trip on the bike - it became a journey of the heart and soul. Events along the way triggered flashbacks from earlier times in Reis' life, starting with his birth, when the doctor encouraged his parents to pull the plug, to overcoming his disabilities, to surviving the heart-wrenching loss of his twin boys in a unique way.

Other events occur on the trip that are flash forwards into Tom's current life as a professor and therapist as he leads students into discovering the meaning of life, love and relationships.

"People want to know about how to make relationships work, understand love better as so many are so confused by love and want to know the meaning of life," Reis writes. "This book has all of that as well and more."

The story encompasses his experiences as Reis pedals through unexpected snow storms, climbs over 11,000 foot passes, and crosses the Continental Divide. Along the way he has a near death experience as he struggles to complete his trip, hampered and emboldened by his life reflections.

This is a story of redemption and transformation. In it are lessons of inspiration, sorrow, courage, tragedy, hope and joy. It's a book that has it all: Adventure, Pain, Meaning and Love. "You can't help but become a better person by the time you get to the end of the book," Reis reflects.

Chronicling the rise and fall of Tomas Zurbriggen, Cliff LeCleir's "The Making of a Man" has a compellingly complex vitality and strong moral center

LaCROSSE, Wis. - (Release Date TBD) - The rise and fall of Tomas Zurbriggen is an allegory of change, morality and redemption foretold. Author Cliff LeCleir, concerned about the devaluation of moral fiber in American leaders, molds his flawed protagonist into a person who represents all that is crass, corrupt and wrong in these leaders. The Making of a Man is one of those necessary fictions that seek to alleviate the state of society by embodying it in a sympathetic but flawed hero who struggles to find his moral balance.

Subtitled What Are Little Boys Made Of?, LeCleir's book gives rise to more urgent questions for its readers to mull over: Does the boy make the man? Was Tomas Zurbriggen's upbringing the basis for his lying, cheating and manipulating his way into the presidency of a company? And, is Zurbriggen's case true for the majority of men? By trickery and deceit, Zurbriggen sought to find fulfillment, to find his portion of the American Dream. Yet, as LeCleir pointedly shows, the American Dream is made up of the glorious virtues that made America the first and greatest of modern democracies.  "Tomas did everything, both right and wrong, with great zeal," LeCleir informs his readers in the introduction. LeCleir's allegory ties in with worldly realities; and its moral depth and complex vitality will compel readers' interest in Zurbriggen's story from the start.

Born from morally solid Swiss stock, Tomas' life is carefully observed, as is his more recent family history. It is a background that is moral and Christian to the core. The virtues are observed in this society - virtues that Tomas, in growing up, slowly lets go of. The world comes in and takes hold of his imagination, one that has been tempted by "intelligent temptations" - logically, Tomas sees how he can twist the law, forget about morality in improving his lot and get away with it. It begins his path down into the parable of the prodigal son.

Zurbriggen rises high up in society, but his fall becomes a thrilling pageant of a human being dissected layer by layer, stripped of his material supports to reveal his core, the moral fiber LeCleir sets out to logically prove innate in Tomas Zurbriggen. It is a difficult, if not harsh task, a battle with evil zeitgeist, but Cliff LeCleir comes up with the correct equations and the philosopher's stone that guides Zurbriggen back into the moral fold that his misguided heart has longed for all along. Thus readers will cheer Tomas Zurbriggen on as he finally becomes a real man.

About the Author

Cliff LeCleir's life began in the simplest of ways: on a Wisconsin farm without electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing. As a youngster, he was constantly involved in creating new ventures in hope of enhancing his savings account. He sold pony rides, raised chickens, using his savings to purchase a cow in order to sell her milk for a steadier income. From the sixth grade, his parents expected him to manage his money in order to provide his own clothes, school supplies, and spending money. After graduating from high school, he spent three years in the Army, half of that time as a topographer in Ethiopia. Returning to Wisconsin and civilian life, he married, began college, had three children, and began his first business, all in five years. At the age of 63, he began the fifth business of his career, calling it "his retirement project." Recuperation from hip surgery provided him time to contemplate another venture - writing! His writing is plain, down to earth, and from the heart. His first book, "From the Outhouse to the Moon," has stories surrounding the early days of his life. The second book, "Escape from Tyranny," is an emotional account of a young couple's escape from Germany in the 1790s. His third book, "The Making of a Man," is a rewrite of a character from ancient Jewish history, placing that character in a contemporary format. LeCleir resides in the rural township of Barre near La Crosse, Wisconsin. His hobbies include using his "toys" (a backhoe, bulldozer and dump truck) to create ponds and waterfalls on his land, cutting wood, teaching adult Bible Classes, and playing racquetball. Now in his 70s he quips, "I have a plan. When I'm 80, I'm going to slow down-I don't care what anyone says!"
