TSO "THE CHRISTMAS ATTIC" PRESENTED BY HALLMARK CHANNEL PLAYING ARENAS NATIONWIDE KICKING OFF NOVEMBER 13TH
Los Angeles, CA - August 15, 2014 - Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) will wrap up 2014 by performing their rock opera The Christmas Attic live for the first time in arenas across the nation on their Winter Tour 2014, beginning on November 13th. While 1998's The Christmas Attic features one of the band's most popular songs "Christmas Canon," surprisingly, it is the only album of The Christmas Trilogy never to be performed live. The 2014 Winter Tour will find TSO playing more than 120 shows in 71 cities across North America. The tour goes on sale on September 12th (see www.trans-siberian.com for details) and will be presented by Hallmark Channel.
TSO creator, lyricist and composer Paul O'Neill explains, "After kicking off the New Year in front of two million fans at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, followed by our second European tour, the band felt that a perfect way to end the year would be to perform the only rock opera from the trilogy that has never been seen live. Some of the songs off The Christmas Attic have never been played live. As I have always said 'it is fun to write the songs, it is fun to record them, but they are never really completed until we perform them in front of a live arena audience.' Of course the second half of the show will feature, TSO iconic classics and fan favorites, such as 'Wizards In Winter,' 'Requiem' and 'Christmas Eve/ Sarajevo 12/24'."
Trans-Siberian Orchestra's rock opera, The Christmas Attic will be re-released, to coincide with the tour, complete with bonus tracks, as well as a special vinyl edition. Called an "...inspiring story..." by USA Today and "Majestic, sweeping..." by Billboard magazine. The album's (and stage production's) narrative begins on Christmas Eve, when a young girl's curiosity leads her to a night of mischief and magic.  She decides to sneak up into the attic of her parents' home while she should be asleep and there discovers a magical doorway to the past in the form of a mysterious trunk filled with ornaments, toys, old records and bundles of handwritten letters. A startling discovery in one of the letters, leads to an unlikely adventure.
TSO, which celebrated its 15th year of live shows last year, has consistently ranked in the Top 10 for yearly gross revenues and attendance, according to touring industry trade Pollstar. The group has played more than 1,600 shows for more than 11 million fans, and in the process, cemented itself as one of the world's biggest arena rock acts. This ongoing success is due to TSO founder Paul O'Neill's vision. O'Neill has melded the sound and fury of rock with the storytelling of Broadway to create a unique amalgamation he calls "rock theater" that leaves crowds of all ages speechless. Additionally, TSO's live performances receive raves from critics, such as: "As the enthralled audience members filed out of the arena, more than one person was overheard saying something to the effect of 'It gets better every year'," "This current tour demonstrates once again the incredible showmanship of Trans-Siberian Orchestra," and "The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is evidence that the genres of rock opera, progressive rock and symphonic rock have not died, and that they actually are thriving... What's cool about it is that the people of all ages and all walks of life can enjoy it."
As in all previous years, a portion of all ticket sales will go to benefit select local charities.  The consistent growth of TSO's touring popularity has increased the group's contributions and, to date, TSO has donated more than $11 million to local charities.
While off the road, TSO is constantly stockpiling new projects in their arsenal, including the rock operas Gutter Ballet and the New York City Blues Express, Letters from the Labyrinth, and Romanov: When Kings Must Whisper, an epic story set amidst the Bolshevik Revolution.
TSO will unveil exciting information on new music in the next few months. Stay tuned to http://www.trans-siberian.com/ for more details.

Trinity Lutheran Church continues to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the church's Casavant pipe organ with a recital on Sunday, August 24, at 3:00pm.  The featured soloist is Dr. Karen Black, Professor of Organ and Church Music at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

The first portion of Dr. Black's program features works of the Baroque era (the years 1600- 1750).  The second latter half of the program is dedicated to organ works of the 20th and 21st Centuries, including works by Reger, Alain, and Locklair.  Concluding the program is Pamela Decker's Fantasy on "A Mighty Fortress is Our God", a piece which received its world premier by Dr. Black in 2002.

Handcrafted by the Canadian firm of Casavant Frères, Trinity's organ was dedicated March 17, 1974.  It was the first of its kind in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois and remains a premiere instrument for the presentation of music by J.S. Bach and his contemporaries.

Dr. Karen E. Black received her Bachelor of Music degree in church music from St. Olaf College.  Her graduate study took place at Indiana University, where she received both a Master of Music degree in organ and church music, and the Doctor of Music degree in organ performance and literature from Indiana University.  Her teachers have included Larry Smith, Marilyn Keiser, John Ferguson, Robert Kendall, Dennis Schmidt, and Gene Janssen.

She is an active recitalist and clinician, performing regularly throughout the United States.  In Germany, she has presented recitals at the Castle Church in Wittenburg and at St. George's Church in Eisenach. Both churches played a role in the life of Martin Luther;  in addition, the Georgenkirche in Eisenach is the baptismal parish of Johann Sebastian Bach.  Dr. Black has been heard on Minnesota Public Radio's nationally broadcast Pipedreams program.

The 3:00pm concert is free.  The public is cordially invited to attend.  A reception honoring the artist follows the program.  Trinity Lutheran Church is at the corner of 14th Street and 14th Avenue in Moline.  Visit www.tlcmoline.org

DAVENPORT, IA - The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities (www.jfqc.org) is turning up the volume on "Jews Rock" - a four-month series of activities celebrating popular music's Jewish heritage - presented by Riverboat Development Authority (RDA).

All events will be hosted at River Music Experience (www.rivermusicexperience.org), 129 Main Street, Davenport, IA. In addition to the RDA and the venue (RME), sponsors include Rauch Family Foundation II, Inc., Stanley and Bernice Harris Memorial Endowment Fund, Bernard and Irene Goldstein Memorial Endowment Fund as well as Presenting Media Partner KWQC TV 6 and Event Partners The Sedona Group, The Dispatch-Argus and Quad-City Times.

The cornerstone of "Jews Rock" are photos by Janet Macoska (www.janetmacoska.com). A nationally recognized rock photographer from Cleveland, OH, she curates a series of images featuring Jewish performers from the last 50 years of popular music. The photos will be displayed at RME beginning Wednesday, Sept. 10th with a free public lecture by Macoska at 7:00 PM, and will remain on site for public viewing through December 10th, 2014. The photo exhibit is free and open to the public during RME's regular business hours. Details on a silent auction to own one of the limited edition prints will be announced soon. (A full list of Jews Rock activities follows this release.)

"Our goal at the Jewish Federation is to connect people of all religions and ethnic backgrounds with the incredible variety of Jewish culture and to develop partnerships with other community resources like River Music Experience," said Allan G. Ross, Executive Director. "Thanks to the RDA and our other sponsors, the 'Jews Rock' program will be a great way to visually, and of course musically, tell the story of the significant Jewish contributions to popular music in our country. Having the RME host it is a perfect fit."

"The RME is excited to partner with the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities in this great program," said Deb Sandry-Powers, CEO of River Music Experience. "We are fortunate that two non-profit entities can collaborate to share space and resources to highlight another Quad City cultural program featuring the music and art of our heritage."
