Tim Rice's Famed West End Production of "From Here To Eternity" Making U.S. Debut in Cinemas This Fall

Fathom Events and Omniverse invite audiences in select U.S. cities to experience legendary lyricist Tim Rice's adaptation of the classic World War II story, "From Here to Eternity," in advance of the musical's opening on Broadway later this fall. For three night's only - Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, October 5 at 12:55 p.m. and Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m., all local time - theater aficionados in nearly 400 cinemas across the country will be captivated by the story of illicit love and Army life during wartime, with lyrics by Rice ("Jesus Christ Superstar," "Evita"), music by Stuart Brayson and book by Bill Oakes. Adapted from James Jones' 1951 novel, and set in the South Pacific, the musical had its premiere in 2013 at London's Shaftesbury Theatre. The three fall showings of "From Here to Eternity" will also feature approximately 20 minutes of behind-the-scenes and making-of footage.

Festival to Draw Hundreds of Handbell Musicians to the Quad Cities

Davenport, Iowa - More than 350 handbell musicians will meet in the Quad Cities June 25-28 as Ring Davenport, the Area 8 Festival of the Handbell Musicians of America, convenes at the RiverCenter in downtown Davenport. The festival includes classes, massed ringing, networking opportunities and numerous concerts.
The public is invited to the closing concert Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 pm. This free event at the Great River Hall in the RiverCenter will feature selections played by the various ringing divisions as well as pieces that will include all 350 attendees performing as one choir. Several local area choirs will be participating. You don't want to miss this opportunity to hear the grandeur of handbells in such an exciting venue.
Two of America's premier handbell ensembles will be performing concerts that are also open to the public. Tickets to these concerts, both of which will be performed in the historic Adler Theatre, are $10 and can be purchased online at areaviii.org/on-line-payments or at the door. Embellish, representing the greater Grand Rapids, MI area, will perform Thursday, June 26 at 8:00 pm. Bells of the Lakes, from the Twin Cities of Minnesota, will be in concert Friday, June 27 at 8:00 pm.
Handbell Musicians of America / Area 8 represents ringers in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. As part of the national organization, it members are dedicated to advancing the musical art of handbell/handchime ringing through education, community and communication.

Ukulele enthusiasts of any age or ability are welcome to join in the fun and make music together. This free family-friendly event will run from 12:00-4:00PM will include giveaways from Kala Brand, like tuning cards, posters, and special one-day only pricing on Kala Brand ukuleles. The Ernie Peniston Band Plays Blues Fest, Launches Live Album

Davenport, Iowa - June 9, 2014 - The Ernie Peniston Band goes on stage in Davenport at the opening night of The Mississippi Valley Blues Fest on July 3 at 10:00 PM.  The group is back in the Quad-Cities for the second time this year, featuring acclaimed frontman Ernie Peniston, an all-star rhythm section, and a new live album.

Performing a tight fusion of original music, Chicago-style blues, and R&B, the band's Blues Fest appearance coincides with the launch of "Live at The Muddy Waters," which was captured during a February 2014 appearance at The Muddy Waters in Bettendorf.  "The room was electric that night between the crowd and the band, and you can hear it in the recording.  It was also a very special night, because it was a gathering of extraordinary musicians and long-time friends that hadn't played together in over 20 years," says Peniston.

The album is available via iTunes for pre-sale now, and the full album will be available for download through iTunes and the band's Facebook page on July 3.

Physical CD's will be available at Blues Fest and online at CD Baby on July 3.

About the Band

Peniston was inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame in 2003.  He's shared the stage with Prince, The Temptations, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Brooks, James Brown, Albert Collins, and many others. He also spent four years as the frontman with Blind Pig recording artists, Chicago Rhythm & Blues Kings, traveling the US and Europe.

The Ernie Peniston Band was formed in the late 80's and currently consists of a reunited, early-90's line-up: Ernie Peniston (Lead Vocal); Joe Collins (Guitar); Darren "Bo" Butler (Bass); Manuel Lopez III (Keys); and Rick Penhallegon (Drums) - all of whom got their start in and around the Quad-Cities.

ARTery Music Event - June 28th, 2014

The ARTery, a Rock Island gallery which features new regional talent, will expand its programming with a novel idea on Saturday, June 28. Acoustic double-neck guitarist Ian Ethan will give a concert accompanied by selected local artists interpreting and painting, in real time, what they hear in the multi-layered instrumental music. An artists' reception will follow the show, when the just-painted, musically-inspired pieces will be displayed.

Ian Ethan's music is loaded with visual possibilities. With 18 strings, innovative playing techniques, and a complex array of electronic looping pedals which he uses to capture and play back parts of the live compositions, the young guitarist builds scores of harmonic and rhythmic layers into his original, uncategorizable songs. The result is music that has been described as "colorful," "rich," "magical," and even "spiritual." The idea of combining visual and musical art is not new to Ian Ethan. Recently, the Planetarium at the Boston Museum of Science held a series of light-image shows specifically designed to accompany his music, performed live under the dome.
