Rock Island, IL - Christian Care is pleased to announce it has received a $500 grant from the Junior Board of Rock Island. This grant will provide direct therapy to children over two years old who arrive at the domestic violence shelter with their mother. As victims or witnesses to domestic violence, children and youth are affected emotionally, socially, physically, and behaviorally during the formative years of their lives. Without some type of intervention, such as Christian Care's Awakening Children to Empowerment Program, both boys and girls are susceptible to carrying the negative effects of domestic violence well into adulthood.

Christian Care is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operating two facilities?a domestic violence shelter for abused women and children and a rescue mission for homeless men. It serves homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, veterans, men and women coming out of prison, and those with mental illnesses.

Christian Care's community meal site is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekdays Monday through Friday, and for breakfast and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast is served at 6:30 a.m., lunch at 12:15 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. If you know of someone in need, call Christian Care's crisis hotline any hour of the day at (309) 788-2273 or visit online at christiancareqc.org.

Rock Island, IL - The Iowa Quad Cities Rotary Club provided a generous $2,000 grant to Christian Care to ensure that children who arrive with their mother at Christian Care's domestic violence shelter will have the opportunity to take part in the Awakening Children to Empowerment (ACE) Program that is designed to assist children who have witnessed or been a victim of domestic violence. As a result of their participation in the ACE program, these children will be able to begin the healing process. They will work through many of the feelings and experiences they have encountered and make positive changes emotionally, socially, physically and behaviorally so they may begin to move past their trauma and face the future in safety and hope.

Rock Island, IL - The Moline Foundation has awarded a $3,500 grant to Christian Care to help support their domestic violence shelter's 24-hour crisis hotline. Through their crisis hotline, Christian Care assists some of the most vulnerable populations in our community?those experiencing domestic violence and abuse, homelessness, or a mental health crisis; those contemplating suicide; and those facing other types of emergencies. Christian Care's 24-hour crisis hotline serves callers needing to talk to a real-life, caring person who is able to offer hope, counseling and resource information. According to Christian care's CEO, Dr. Elaine Winter, "One call can literally mean the difference between life and death for those in danger, so this grant is very much appreciated."

(Quad Cities, IA) - Pencils and pens and notebooks - oh my!

Jaycees of the Quad Cities volunteers recently assembled back packs filled with school supplies to assist low-income children with starting the school year on the right foot. The volunteers consisted of a dozen members of Jaycees, a young professional service group with a self-proclaimed volunteering problem.

"Our members believe that service to humanity is the best work of life," said Christine Bruce, Vice President of Community Development and the project lead.

With the help of a dozen volunteers, 336 backpacks will be distributed this week and next to children in need at elementary schools in Davenport, Iowa; East Moline, Illinois; and Moline, Illinois.

Jaycees of the Quad Cities invested nearly $5,000 in the project and annually fundraises for this project and others through the upcoming Brew Ha Ha (September 19) and the Bridal Expo (January 30). All projects are completed 100% by volunteer efforts.

This is the 5th year for Back-to-School, a program of the Jaycees of the Quad Cities, which provides free school supplies and back packs to youth in need. Without the Jaycees assistance, many of these kids would go back to school unprepared. Teachers identify students with the most need and deliver their backpacks filled with supplies at unpack your backpack night.

"This is an excellent way to give back to our community," said Jennifer Kincaid, President, Jaycees of the Quad Cities. "There's no reason that a kid should feel like they aren't prepared on day one just because they may not have the financial means to get all they need."

The Jaycees of the Quad Cities supports this and other projects aimed at giving youth a head start on being successful in school and in life. Individuals and groups interested in volunteering with Jaycees of the Quad Cities should contact info@jayceesqc.org or call (563) 484-0041.
