Davenport, Iowa - Leslie Hunter, chaplain and religious studies instructor at Holy Family School in Chicago, is St. Paul Lutheran Church's 2015 Faith & Life Series speaker. Hunter will present twice on Sunday, October 11, at St. Paul, 2136 Brady St., Davenport. The event is free and open to the public. His book will be for sale in the Book Corner.

His presentations will be:

  • In the Grip of Grace: Sunday morning learning hour, 10:45 a.m.

  • ...By Our Love: Community-wide lecture, 7 p.m.

Each fall, the St. Paul congregation hosts the community-wide Faith & Life Series. The church brings persons of national stature to the Quad Cities - sparking new ideas about what it means to live faithfully. Previous presenters have included Greg Boyle, an urban priest and advocate for youth; Joan Chittister, a Catholic visionary and social advocate; and Bill McKibben, an environmentalist.

Leslie Hunter was born and raised in Chicago in an abusive household. The 17th time he moved was when he went to college. But no matter where he lived, he always knew how to find his way to Holy Family Church in the Cabrini-Green housing project area of Chicago.

At that church, Leslie preached his first sermon at the age of 15. "The whole congregation supported me, they applauded me. I was surrounded by people who said 'of course you're going to college. You can do this.'"

As a student at Concordia University Chicago, Leslie began his work at the church. He graduated with a degree in psychology, and served as parish minister and youth pastor at Holy Family. He led a program, Boys in the Hood, for boys and men age 7-young adult.

Leslie's tools of ministry are sermons, raps, short stories, and spoken word poetry. He now spends his days at Holy Family School, leading chapel and teaching kids about the Bible, Christianity, and other world religions. He travels around the country and speaks at various church, convention, and community functions.

He and his wife Elizabeth, who writes for The Lutheran magazine, have two young sons.

12 tribes of Israel for our Jewish friends and 12 apostles for Christians. The number 12 relates to divine government, God's authority, perfection, and completion. So, our twelfth Night to Honor Israel promises to be a very special night starting with our keynote speaker Pastor Mark Biltz.
I first met Mark at a CUFI Summit meeting in Washington D.C. several years ago. He was a main platform speaker and spoke with such passion and authority on Israel I knew then he would one day be our keynote speaker here in the Quad Cities. Please see his biography below. Mark's message is timely and relevant with everything unfolding in the Mid-East. Please never stop praying for the peace of Jerusalem. I hope to see you on October 15th.

WACOAL CELEBRATES 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIT FOR THE CURE® EVENT HELPS TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER

--Free bra fittings to help women look good, and do good--

WHAT: Join Wacoal in its mission to help end breast cancer with Fit for the Cure®! Participate in a Fit for the Cure event and receive a complimentary bra fitting from a Wacoal fit specialist. For every woman that participates, Wacoal will donate $2 to Susan G. Komen® for breast cancer research and community health programs. Wacoal will donate an additional $2 for every Wacoal bra, shapewear piece or b.tempt'd bra purchased at these events.

This season, in celebration of the 15th anniversary of Fit for the Cure, Wacoal has begun a new initiative inspiring women everywhere to get fit!  Wacoal will donate an extra $1 for each woman who photographs themselves following their fitting with a special "I Got Fit" sign and shares on social media using #IGotFit.

For 15 years, Wacoal has dedicated its efforts to educating more than 741,000 women across 411 cities about the importance of bra fit, foundation and overall breast health. To date, through Fit for the Cure, Wacoal has donated over $4 million to Susan G. Komen® and continues to host more than 1,200 events across America each year.

WHY: Giving back is a major component of Wacoal's business philosophy and an important factor in the growth of the brand.  In 2015, Wacoal will reach two major milestones: 30 years of making women look and feel good and 15 years of raising awareness through Fit for the Cure.

Research shows that 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong sized bra. Wearing a bra should not be even slightly uncomfortable.  Women should be professionally fitted for a bra once a year to ensure their bra size has not changed as a result of natural fluctuations in their body.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American women age 40-59 and accounts nearly 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed in the U.S.  By taking 15 minutes to meet with a Wacoal fit expert, you're helping to contribute to an important cause. Wacoal encourages women to visit their doctor for monthly breast examinations that could ultimately save their life.
