Davenport, Iowa (June 17, 2015) - The Figge Art Museum will welcome a new traveling exhibition to the third and fourth floor galleries beginning Saturday. American Moderns on Paper: Materworks from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art will provide a front row seat to the development of American art during perhaps its most dynamic period (the early 20th century) through a priceless collection of personal and spontaneous works?those done on paper.

The exhibition features 87 works by 44 artists, created between 1902 and 1962, and ranging in style from the urban realism of John Sloan to the pioneering abstractions of Arthur Dove. Signature works by American masters such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Edward Hopper, as well as works by lesser-known, but influential artists such as Peggy Bacon and William Baziotes will be on view.

During the period in which these works were created the United States and New York City in particular became the world center of innovation in the visual arts. Many artists in the exhibition emigrated from Europe, while others were Americans who made frequent trips to travel and study in Paris and other European capitals, absorbing the influences of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and other modernists.

The artists in American Moderns on Paper responded in different ways to the influence of the Europeans and to the dynamic changes of the 20th century. John Marin, for instance, incorporated Cubist elements into his cityscapes to express the energy of New York's bridges and skyscrapers. Works by Charles Burchfield, Ellsworth Kelly and others continue the great tradition of landscape in American art, giving it a modern vocabulary.

American Moderns on Paper: Masterworks from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art is presented with the generous support of the Riverboat Development Authority in celebration of the Figge's 10th anniversary, with additional support from Genesis Health System and Per Mar Security Services and will be on view June 20-September 20, 2015.

Coal Valley, IL - June 16, 2015 - Niabi Zoo visitors have become much more than just zoo visitors for the 2015 season and beyond. With its new Quarters for Conservation program, the Zoo has empowered its guests to become wildlife heroes.

Quarters for Conservation is a new initiative that was launched in earnest at the beginning of Niabi Zoo's 2015 season. Through this program, twenty-five cents from each paid admission is automatically contributed to Niabi Zoo's conservation fund, which supports multiple conservation projects taking place around the world. With thousands of visitors each year, these quarters are adding up to be a significant help for animals.

Not only are Niabi Zoo visitors contributing to global conservation efforts, they determine where their contribution goes. Upon entry into the Zoo, each visitor receives a token to cast their vote for one of four featured conservation projects. This token represents their twenty-five cent contribution and each conservation project will receive funding according to how votes are cast. Niabi Zoo visitors may also contribute their spare change to any of the conservation causes if they would like to support wildlife conservation even further.

"We are very excited to launch our Quarters for Conservation program," said Zoo Director Marc Heinzman, "and we have heard incredible feedback from our visitors as well." Heinzman said that Quarters for Conservation is a way for Niabi Zoo visitors to know that their visit to the Zoo actually means something and has an impact on global conservation. "We have been using the slogan 'Change for Change' when talking about this program, and it has really proven true as these small donations are turning into a driving force for the protection of wild animals and wild places."

Quarters for Conservation's inaugural slate of conservation projects represents a variety of animals and field work being done by globally respected organizations. Zoo visitors can vote to support the Snow Leopard Trust, the Jaguar Conservation Fund, The Ruaha Carnivore Project, or Association Mitsinjo. The projects supported by Niabi Zoo's Quarters for Conservation may change from year to year. Nearly $30,000 has been raised so far.

DES MOINES, IA (06/16/2015)(readMedia)-- Local Des Moines Artist Ben Schuh has been named the winner of the Iowa State Fair Mural Contest, and will be painting his creation in the Patty and Jim Cownie Cultural Center. Watch his mural come to life August 13-23.

According to Schuh, his concept for the mural was to combine the best of both naturally occurring and man-made points of interest in Iowa. Some of these points include the Capitol Building, Des Moines skyline, High Trestle Trail Bridge, wind turbines and Iowa's landscape. "These elements overlap in such a way that the entire mural interacts and draws viewers in," said Schuh.

Originally from Webster County, Schuh and his family are passionate State Fair attendees, starting with his grandfather back in the 1930's. He is a third generation 4-H participant. He participated throughout his childhood, and he exhibited 4-H projects at the Iowa State Fair in the late 90's.

"My upbringing was defined by 4-H.," Schuh said in his application. "As a third generation 4-H'er and a second generation State Fair exhibitor, it is part of my heritage."

Schuh's interest in art really developed in college. A passionate Iowan, he graduated from Grand View University in Des Moines with degrees in Fine Art and Graphic Design. While his largest client base is Des Moines and the Midwest, he has sold paintings all over the nation, as well as in Canada and Europe.

As the mural contest winner, Schuh won a $2,500 stipend, up to $500 in reimbursement for supplies, and an invitation to paint the mural on-site during the Fair.

ARTIST/MUSICIAN BRETT WHITACRE TO EXHIBIT AT L&D15 - JULY 25 - AUGUST 24
OPENING RECEPTION SAT. JULY 25, 7 - 10pm
L&D15 is very pleased to announce that artist and drummer for The Legendary Shack Shakers, Brett Whitacre, will be exhibiting at their gallery/boutique beginning on July 25th.
Opening the same day as the Bix Race and the final dip in Davenport, L&D15 thinks Brett Whitacre's Maximum Wage artist reception is going to draw art lovers downtown that evening. "Brett is going to be here, and we are hoping that by having our event concurrently with all these other great events in the downtown, that we can encourage locals and visitors alike to walk around downtown and have a good time," explains L&D15 co-owner David Balluff.
Brett Whitacre is a self taught and colorblind artist living and working in Northern Illinois. He has been producing works using a reverse glass painting technique for 12 years. Upon moving to Chicago in 2001, he began walking, biking, and driving the alleyways of the city seeking various discarded materials to use as a canvas. Pre-digital televisions, hard shell luggage, and storm windows were his favorite finds. Settling on his love for the crispness and pristine of paint on glass, found window panes became his main focus. Brett's work today is on windows but also tempered glass panels for a more modern feel. The subject matter varies greatly as his interests are broad. When asked why he paints what he does, he'll say "All these things are really cool...I like em".

Mary Halm began studying classical bass in second grade and began playing jazz in High School.  Mary will also be attending DePaul University in the Jazz Studies program this fall.

Zac Nunnery just completed his first year at DePaul University studying guitar in the Jazz Studies program.  While at DePaul, he has begun playing in the Chicago music scene in addition to his work with Alex and Mary.

Quad Cities - Beyond all the fun exhibits and events happening during the first annual Quad Cities Museum Week, June 13-21, there will also be a new Geocache for everyone to enjoy.

What is geocaching?  Geocaching is a treasure hunt that can be as fun for the hider as it is for the seeker.  Any given treasure, known as a geocache, has specific coordinates of longitude and latitude to which seekers must travel in order to locate the treasure.  Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or GPS-enabled smartphone and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called "geocaches" or "caches", anywhere in the world.

"By finding some or all of the Quad Cities Museum caches you will learn about the many great museums in the community," says Gretchen Small of the Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House.  "A total of 11 museums are participating in the Geocache."

Ms. Small organized the geocache and the project was funded by the William Butterworth Foundation. According to Ms. Small, all the museum caches are located outdoors.

To get started on your treasure hunt during Quad Cities Museum Week, simply go to www.geocaching.com and see if you can collect a wooden nickel from all of the participating museum geocaches.

Participating museums in the Geocache include the Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead, Buffalo Bill Museum, Butterworth Center, Dan Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, Deere-Wiman House, Family Museum, Figge Art Museum, German American Heritage Center, Iowa 80 Trucking Museum, Putnam Museum and Science Center, and Rock Island County Historical Society.

For more information on the geocache and Quad Cities Museum Week, go to www.qcmuseumweek.com.  More than 20 museums throughout the Quad Cities region are part of this year's celebration.  The website includes geocache information, museum events and listings, and a downloadable brochure.  The brochure is printable and lists all the events, museum locations, and a map.
Notes2Bucks LLC Announces Availability of Cloud-based Locker Service, MyDigitalCatalog.com
Helping creatives and stakeholders in the music business protect and defend IP rights.
ATLANTA, Ga. ? June 10, 2015 ? Millions of dollars of music performance and songwriting royalties are lost or in limbo because of incorrect or incomplete ownership data. Notes2Bucks LLC is proud to offer a solution - MyDigitalCatalog.com, a Cloud-based locker service that systemizes collection, validation, and sharing of intellectual property among creators before a song is released.

"Those who adopt MyDigitalCatalog.com will get a strong leg up in attracting high-quality entertainment attorneys, managers, and investors. Back catalog strength rests squarely on a clear ownership chain of evidence," said Angela K. Durden, founder and chief executive officer of Notes2Bucks LLC. "Reduce the chance of disagreements over splits - and more - that hold up royalty payments.
"We support the creator's ability to monetize assets more quickly by confirming all tracking information is collected and agreed upon by stakeholders before a song is released," Durden added. "Paperwork isn't sexy, nor is it fun, but without question it is critical to building a strong catalog and a vital career."
Making paperwork easy
"The nature of creative teams in the music business is that they constantly change, making it difficult to handle required paperwork each song must have in order to be tracked and licensed," said Dale M. Sizemore, co-founder and chief operating officer at Notes2Bucks LLC. "DIY/Indies, publishers, and others benefit from deploying MyDigitalCatalog.com because it is their virtual administrative assistant. At a glance, it reminds them of what crucial information they have and what is missing from each song's documentation."
Founded in 2013, Notes2Bucks LLC intends to offer a range of services designed to protect and defend intellectual property rights of creators in other fields. Angela K. Durden is the author of the book Navigating the New Music Business as a DIY & Indie: Coming Clean with the Down and Dirty, available through in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and throughout Europe.
