“A Life Lived in Bright Light" at the Voices Studio -- through September 28.

Through Saturday, September 28

Voices Studio, 1585 Central Avenue, Dubuque IA

An evocative and inspiring exhibit by esteemed artist Andrew Raeside, A Life Lived in Bright Light, on display at Dubuque's Voices Studio through September 28,will showcase a series of abstract paintings that celebrate the shared emotional experiences and connections between individuals, as well as reflect Raeside's lifelong journey of capturing the vibrancy and intensity of human emotions through art.

At the tender age of 12, Raeside experienced a profound spiritual rebirth, igniting a passion for art that has since defined his life. This transformative moment marked the beginning of an artistic journey that led to a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the University of Northern Iowa in 1980. Following a period of working with disabled adults in Dubuque, the artist moved to New England, where he taught Art and Music at Spaulding Academy, a residential school for children with emotional and behavioral disorders. Concurrently, Raeside pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching from Plymouth State University, enriching his educational and artistic endeavors.

After dedicating 27 years to teaching at Spaulding Academy, Raeside retired and returned to Dubuque to fully immerse himself in the local artist community and focus on painting. Embracing Expressionist and Abstract Expressionist techniques, the artist draws significant inspiration from the New York School of Abstract Expressionists and the concept of the collective unconscious proposed by psychologist Carl Jung. Through his work, Raeside explores the idea that despite our diverse backgrounds and experiences, we are all emotionally interconnected.

A Life Lived in Bright Light aims to evoke emotional responses from viewers, highlighting the universal experiences that bind us together. Each painting in the collection serves as a testament to the artist's belief that art can transcend the physical world and touch the depths of our shared emotional landscape. Voices Studios invites art enthusiasts and the general public to experience this remarkable exhibition and celebrate the profound connections that unite us all.

A Life Lived in Bright Light and the concurrent exhibition Under the Same Sun will be on display August 2 through September 28, admission is free, and more information is available by calling (563)590-2533 and visiting VoicesStudios.org.
