Churches United of the Quad City Area asks all houses of faith as well as the greater Quad City community to join with them in prayer and unity as we denounce the horrible tragedy of the killings at Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church located in Charleston, South Carolina.

We pray for Rev. Clemeneta Pinckney and those members who were brutally shot and killed as well as their families.  We ask for prayer for the church family of Emmanuel A.M.E. church that they find strength and hope within this senseless tragedy.

We as Christians who need to practice what we preach should also ask for prayers for the family of Dylann Roof who is the alleged shooter in this horrific killing. The throws of violence and hate need to stop.  We as Christians and partners of faith need and should be the voices of change, of LOVE and PEACE and of sharing the word of God.

Churches United of the Quad City Area has received a $5,000.00 grant from The TJX Foundation, in support of Winnie's Place, its Emergency Shelter for Women (and their children).

Churches United has a 53-year history of reaching out to our community.  Its 136 member churches represent 50,000 people from the Quad City Area.

As well as Winnie's Place, a shelter for women (with or without children) who are homeless and/or victims of domestic violence, Churches United operates 26 food pantries and 3 hot meal sites in the Quad City Area.  For information about services offered, or ways to support Churches United, call 563-332-5002, or visit our website at www.CUQCA.org.

The Rev. Dr. James Alexander Forbes, Jr. is President and Founder of the Healing of the Nations Foundation of New York and Senior Minister Emeritus of the Riverside Church. The Healing of the Nations Foundation (www.healingofthenations.com) is a non-partisan, interfaith, not-for-profit organization for the promotion of a holistic understanding of health and wellness. It seeks to broaden the awareness of the inter-relatedness of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and community health. Healing of the Nations Foundation encourages individuals, families and communities to be seriously committed to achieving and sustaining good health for themselves and to find specific areas where they may offer their support for the health and wellness of others. It seeks to promote conversation and where possible, cooperative ventures across boundaries of faith traditions, professional disciplines and cultural perspectives.

In national and international religious circles, The Rev. Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr. is known as the preacher's preacher because of his extensive preaching career and his charismatic style. It is that time of year again to promote the Feinstein Foundation to help raise money for Churches United's Hunger Ministries.

Last year, $12,000 was raised for Churches United by our local community donations between the dates of March 1 and April 30th, 2012. Our goal this year is $13,000. We hope that you can participate in this endeavor. The Feinstein Foundation is not a match dollar for dollar but he does give a proportion of his one million to each agency that participates. Last year, the average amount received in Iowa and Illinois for groups like ours was $280.00. with a guarantee of $250.00 for very little effort. We can purchase approximately 4300 pounds of extra food simply by participating with the Feinstein Foundation . Won't you please help us and send an additional contribution of any size during this 60 day period to help us participate with the Feinstein Foundation? Thank you so very much!
