Compromise legislation includes equitable funding for districts, more school choice for families

CHICAGO (Aug. 31, 2017) – Flanked by school children and legislative leaders, Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed historic school funding legislation that puts children first and makes lasting changes that will help generations of children to come.

CHICAGO (Sep. 1, 2017) –Governor Bruce Rauner today granted seven and denied 87 clemency petitions. 

This is the nineteenth set of petitions the governor has reviewed since taking office. Each person granted clemency has recently undergone a criminal background check through the Illinois State Police’s Law Enforcement Agencies Data System.

CHICAGO (Aug. 30, 2017) – Lise T. Spacapan has been appointed General Counsel to the Governor to serve as Gov. Bruce Rauner’s top legal adviser. She had been serving the state as General Counsel for the Department of Children and Family Services. Her time at DCFS included a stint as Interim Director last June.

Governor touts education transformation during tour of Illinois schools

In a tour of Illinois schools today, Gov. Bruce Rauner spoke to students about their future while highlighting how historic education funding reform in Illinois ensures equitable funding for public schools, better school choice for families and property tax relief for taxpayers.

“Today, members of the Illinois Senate voted in favor of legislation that will bring historic education reform to Illinois children and their families. First, I would like to thank Senate President John Cullerton and Senate Republican Leader Bill Brady and other members for working together to close the gap on school funding and making sure every child across the state will have access to the best education.

SB 1933 establishes automatic voter registration program

CHICAGO (Aug. 28, 2017) – Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed SB 1933, which amends the Election Code to require that the Secretary of State and Board of Elections establish an automatic voter registration program.
