DES MOINES, IOWA (May 13, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, May 2, and Saturday, May 8, was 3,649, an increase of 504 from last week’s adjusted numbers.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 11, 2021) — Governor Kim Reynolds announced new measures to address the State of Iowa’s severe workforce shortage. Effective June 12, 2021, the State of Iowa will end its participation in federal pandemic-related unemployment benefit programs. The Governor also announced that effective June 13, 2021, Iowa will no longer waive employer charges for COVID-related unemployment insurance claims.

DES MOINES, IOWA (May 6, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 25, and Saturday, May 1, was 3,375, a decrease of 580 from last week’s adjusted numbers.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 29, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 18, and Saturday, April 24, was 3,893, a decrease of 3,088 from last week’s adjusted numbers. There were 3,494 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 399 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 22, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 11, and Saturday, April 17, was 7,255, an increase of 2,250 from last week’s adjusted numbers. There were 6,673 initial claims by individuals who work and live in Iowa, and 582 claims by individuals who work in Iowa and live in another state.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 20, 2021) — Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) reports an increase in recent fraudulent activity related to unemployment insurance. This includes claims filed using stolen identities or unauthorized access to an individual’s account, as well as computer-generated claims from a single employer that exceeds the number of employees.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 16, 2021) — Iowa’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.7 percent from the revised February rate of 3.7 percent. The state’s jobless rate was 2.9 percent one year ago. The US unemployment rate fell to 6.0 percent in March.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 15, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, April 4, and Saturday, April 10, was 5,279, a decrease of 846 from last week’s adjusted numbers.

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 8, 2021) — The number of initial unemployment claims in Iowa, filed between Sunday, March 28, and Saturday, April 3, was 6,770, an increase of 2,168 from last week’s adjusted numbers.
