DES MOINES, IOWA (March 8, 2021) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging Iowa high schools to conduct voter-registration drives on Tuesday, March 30. The date coincides with the 50th anniversary of Iowa ratifying the 26th Amendment to the US Constitution, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.

The award is named after the famous Iowan who was instrumental in securing passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women access to the ballot box.

DES MOINES, IOWA (January 14, 2021) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate is encouraging all Iowa high schools to participate in a statewide effort to register students to vote. Each school that registers at least 90 percent of their eligible students by April 16 will receive the 2021 Carrie Chapman Catt Award, named after the Iowan who was a national leader in the women’s suffrage movement.

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 18, 2020) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate joins a bipartisan group of 17 Secretaries of State asking congressional leaders to provide adequate funding for the US Election Assistance Commission during Fiscal Year 2021. The letter was sent to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Minority Leader of the House Kevin McCarthy.
