The Super Bowl is two short weeks away and MAF is launching a special SUPERBOWL challenge to all of our pro-troops supporters to donate more care packages for the troops. The team with the most donations will win!!!

Last year you, our donors, picked the winning team who went on to win the game! Wow. Will you do it two years in a row?

In addition to the care packages sent out because of the generous gifts by you, if your team receives more donations overall, they will be named the MAF SUPERBOWL TROOPERBOWL Champions.

We will be sending a special shipment of care packages to a unit in Afghanistan from the winning teams' state. So a lucky unit from either California or Maryland will receive a special shipment of boxes with Super Bowl gifts and information about our MAF SUPERBOWL competition!

SO, we want to know, can 49er's fans donate more to the troops than Ravens fans?

The Super Bowl will be an incredible game between two of the league's best teams. Both have playmakers on both sides of the ball and it's impossible to say who will win. As you get ready to watch the game you can decide to help the brave troops who watch over you by sending them a care package

There have been rumors circulating through social media and chain e-mails claiming that our troops overseas are no longer receiving hot meals for breakfast or midnight 4th meal. Some claim it's due to budget cuts, others say it's logistics, but the rumors are flying that troops are only getting lunch and dinner provided.

"An Internet rumor that American troops in Afghanistan no longer get breakfast has prompted a response from the Pentagon via Twitter.

A chain email says the last-minute deal Congress passed to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff" also denies breakfast to troops in Afghanistan.

The email garnered enough attention that rumor-debunking site Snopes.com picked up on it and rated the email "partly true" since some bases stopped serving hot breakfasts as they get ready for the drawdown."

The DoD has tried to fight the rumors by reassuring people through their twitter feed, that troops are getting 4 meals a day, but even according to the DoD's best spin, they're saying two of those meals are MRE rations.

Our troops deserve better.

If you think our troops deserve better, how about sending a care package filled with GOOD tasting food that's also portable, like powdered Gatorade or hot cocoa that can easily be mixed in minutes, or cookies and beef jerky that stay safe and delicious for weeks.

Hero of COP Keating Battle to Receive MoH
By Michelle Tan - Staff writer

Romesha was a section leader in B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division during the Oct. 3, 2009, attack on Combat Outpost Keating in eastern Afghanistan.

Eight American soldiers were killed and two dozen others wounded in the battle as the troop-sized element fought against an overwhelming enemy force that launched a brazen attack to overrun the COP.

The attack on COP Keating remains one of the deadliest attacks against coalition forces in Afghanistan and is chronicled in the book "The Outpost" by Jake Tapper.
BCS TROOPERBOWL
Pick a team and help the troops

This year's BCS championship game is college football's mother lode, a Notre Dame-Alabama showdown for the national title, arguably one of the greatest Championship-game matchups the BSC has ever delivered. And you can take part and help in MAF's first ever BCS "Trooperbowl". Now the BCS title will either go to the Fighting Irish or the Crimson Tide on Monday Jan, 7th but you can decide which team is the Trooper Bowl winner by donating today.

All you have to do is donate on behalf of either Notre Dame's Fighting Irish or Alabama's Crimson Tide. Whichever team has more donations by game time on Monday Jan 7th will win the "Trooperbowl" and in addition to the care packages sent from both teams donations, a special shipment of Care Packages will be sent to a Unit in Afghanistan from the winning team's home state.

If you like College football or if you just like to help the troops, the first annual BCS Trooper bowl is for you. Your donation could turn the tide in deciding which unit in Afghanistan with gets the special BCS Trooperbowl Care Package. Either way you can make a huge impact in a soldiers life by sending him the comfort of home and a personalize message letting them know they have your support!!

The winning team will be decided by which ever has more donations by game time Monday the 7th.  A lucky Unit from either Indiana (fighting Irish) or Alabama(Crimson Tide) will receive a special shipment of Care Packages with a BCS theme and be crowned the BCS Trooperbowl Champions.

All over the country you can read about how local communities are doing wonderful things, coming together, to support the troops around the Thanksgiving holiday.

At the Bob Hope USO room at LAX International Airport "about 300 military troops deploying across the U.S. and around the world will celebrate an early Thanksgiving dinner. The USO Thanksgiving dinner for members of all branches of the military is sponsored by USO supporter, The Gary Sinise Foundation, which is dedicated to honoring veterans, first responders, their families and those in need."

In Virginia, the USO is supporting the families of troops. "Through donations to the Turkeys for Troops program, the United Service Organizations' USO-Metropolitan Washington will prepare Thanksgiving gift baskets for military families in need."

In Dana Point, California, an annual event called "Turkey Trot for the Troops" helps raise money with a race.

"Event organizer, the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce, has earmarked proceeds to go toward supporting the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group's efforts to show our active duty 5th Marines the community's appreciation and lend support to them and their families whether in-country or deployed."

These are all great things that supporters are doing across the country to support their local troops and military families.

But remember that while it's wonderful to do something for troops returning from war, or their families, there is nothing the average citizen can do to help the 67,000 troops who are thousands of miles away, unable to be home for Thanksgiving, because they're DEPLOYED in Afghanistan.

Not to worry, there is good news! You CAN help those troops overseas, by send care packages, offered by Move America Forward.

It's the only way to send support to the troops who are in harm's way, ON TURKEY DAY!
It is with great respect, admiration and deep understanding that I write this letter to honor each and every Veteran that has served or is serving our blessed Country! I understand and appreciate all who have given so much for me, so that I could enjoy my daily freedoms.

I was able to sleep well in the safety of my bed last night, because you served.

I was able to pray before my meal this morning in a public place without fearing arrest, because you gave.

I am able to freely speak my mind and voice my opinion without fear of retaliation against me or my family, because you cared.

I am able to stand up for what I believe in and not have a Dictators thoughts and opinions forced down my throat, because you stood up to the call to defend.

I am free to worship the one true God who created me in His image, because you were selfless in your actions.

To each one of you I speak from the bottom of my heart when I say Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! You are my Heroes and I want to remember and honor you this Veterans Day. Not a single day goes by that I don't think of the sacrifices you and your families have given!

My son Marc Alan Lee was laid to rest on Aug 2nd 2006.  I also remember him today as I do everyday and the sacrifice he made.

Thank you son!  His headstone says "Loved deeply, Deeply loved." The love doesn't go any deeper than that! He loved deeply!

He loved his brothers he served with, he loved me, he loved his family, he loved this nation, he loved his freedoms, he loved God, and he gave.

He gave it all! "Greater love has no one than this, that he laid down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) That's what a hero does. They are willing to give their lives for others if it's required.

I also think of my son Kris who served in the Marines, my son-in-law Christopher who served in the Army and my brother Jim who is serving in the Air Force! Thank you!

Each one of you have deeply loved this country and were willing to give your life if required for this country. Thank you!

Many of you have given your blood, and been wounded for this country. Thank you!

Many of you have  friends, family and brothers at arms who paid the ultimate sacrifice just like my son Marc! Thank you! We will never forget our fallen heroes or their families.

I have traveled around this country, to Iraq and Gitmo speaking out in support of you, thanking and honoring you "Our defenders of freedom." I have been blessed to meet many of you and your families, and have been so deeply touched by your stories and your sacrificial service to this nation. I don't take for granted our freedom which isn't free, it comes at a cost and you willingly paid that for me. So please remember this Veteran's Day that I am your biggest fan and that you are deeply appreciated and loved.

There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you and your families and I know I'm not alone. There is a grateful nation who also honors and remembers your sacrifice and knows that our country is what it is today because you selflessly gave.

I know the price of freedom and I understand the sacrifices that you have given. You have done that for me, and for this nation. You didn't do that for rewards or medals or recognition.

Please join me today as a grateful nation chooses to collectively remember, thank and celebrate our Vets, who they are and what they have selflessly given. I choose to do that every day because they are my HEROES and I am so grateful!

Happy Veterans Day and God bless each one of you!

Today the 237th birthday of the USMC

The US Marine Corps has been an instrumental part of protecting the safety of American families, our Constitution, and the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of this great nation. From the Revolutionary War, to the wars we are still fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, Marines are there, fighting in the front lines, willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, in defense of their homeland.

Approximately 20,000 Marines are part of the multinational coalition of over 98,000 troops in Afghanistan. In Iraq, hundreds of Marines remain as part of the 50,000 strong security and advisory force.  Today is their birthday too, and they will not be able to celebrate with their fellow Marines at USMC celebrations and balls held around the country. Let's send them some care packages to show our support, and wish them a happy birthday!

While some Marines can celebrate this birthday, others must continue the fight! Show them your support!

"On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name "Marine".  In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history."

This is how Marine Corps Birthday Message order No. 47 begins.

During 179 of the 235 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the nation's enemies.  Millions of hours of sacrifice have been dedicated to our freedom and our peace. You may have the honor of personally knowing one of these brave men or women who have answered the call of duty. More than likely though, your liberties are being protected by an anonymous donor, a Marine.

Faceless and nameless that Marine's sole focus is for you and your children. Today is the Marine Corps' birthday. Today you can put a name and face to that selfless sacrifice. The name is Marine.

Help us honor our Marines and Armed Forces by celebrating this important date. You may not see their faces and you may not know their names, but you can let them know you're thinking about them by sending a care package full of thanks and treats to remind them that we stand behind our troops.

VETERAN'S DAY TOMORROW! SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

The most important day of the year for the millions of Americans who have served their country proudly over the years is almost upon us. Sunday, November 11th is the day we recognize our military veterans, who have fought and sacrificed to oppose our enemies and keep our nation free.

While thousands of troops will be coming home by the end of the year, we still have a responsibility to support them as they wrap up their mission in Iraq. But there are even more thousands still serving in Afghanistan and they'll continue to fill an important role into 2014 and beyond.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN WITH A THOUGHTFUL CARE PACKAGE FROM HOME,
JUST A WAY TO SAY "THANKS" FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO FOR US
Despite the Killing of Bin Laden, Al Qaeda Continues to be a Threat

Don't believe the Obama Administration's misconception about the war in Afghanistan. If you listen to some of our leaders, they try to make the case that the war in Afghanistan is largely over, that the strength of the Al Qaeda and Taliban terrorists has been broken and that all that remains is a moderate, toothless group of ragtag fighters who couldn't possibly pose a threat to the United States. This is a falsehood.

The truth is that the Taliban and Al Qaeda remain as enemies and they do threaten American security. Our troops are still fighting them!
Send a Care Package to our Brave Soldiers Fighting the Terrorists!

According to a CBS reporter Lara Logan (pictured below) who has been on the ground in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda and the Taliban are still strongly working together, and have enough manpower to continue posing a threat to the stability of the country and even threaten American targets and civilians.

On Sept. 30, CBS's 60 Minutes aired a program, aptly titled "The Longest War," that discussed al Qaeda's resurgence in Afghanistan. You can watch the program [above].

The program makes several points that we here at The Long War Journal have made for years: al Qaeda has provided key assistance to the Taliban, including training and personnel [see our report on the Shadow Army from February 2009]; al Qaeda remains entrenched in Afghanistan, and has a safe haven in Kunar (we warned about this starting in 2009); and the US military's own press releases detail the reach of al Qaeda and other terror groups in the country (LWJ has been covering this exclusively for years, in painstaking detail).

See the following excerpt from the program's transcript:

[Narrator:] He [a Taliban commander] told us al Qaeda fighters are rushing to Afghanistan and that he has more than a dozen of them under his command. He also said they have been the driving force that has made the Taliban more lethal on the battlefield.

LOGAN: Are you the only commander with al Qaeda fighters?

TALIBAN COMMANDER: There are many groups that have them. We can't do this without them.

LOGAN: What skills do the al Qaeda fighters bring?

TALIBAN COMMANDER: They are masters of everything. For example, making IEDs, something we don't know how to do. But they are teaching us. They are also master engineers and good with all weapons. When our weapons break, they are the ones who repair them. We can't do this without them.

LOGAN: While the U.S. has been saying for a long time that al Qaeda in Afghanistan is almost defeated, the U.S. military's own reports from the battlefield reveal a very different picture.

They are rich with detail about al Qaeda's leaders and operations today, confirming the existence of al Qaeda training camps and multiple attack cells. Among those they say they've killed are al Qaeda weapons and explosives experts. In one month, the U.S. says it killed more than 25 al Qaeda leaders and fighters.

Friends this is a message that I never wanted to have to write, but today the time has come to be honest with each other and admit that something has gone terribly wrong. Despite our best efforts, our troops overseas in Afghanistan are still suffering from a lack of compassion and attention from back home, especially from the news outlets and the politicians who claim to care so much.

Candidate Obama promised to refocus America's resources on Afghanistan. But by the time President Obama sent 33,000 more troops to Afghanistan in December 2009 in a policy known as the "surge", years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan had drained Western resources and sapped resolve
- NBC 8/22/2012

The President just threw some more troops into Afghanistan to fulfill his campaign promise and then just forgot about them. He didn't want to appear soft on terror, he didn't want to admit that he intended to ignore our troops, but that's whats been happening.

When was the last time you heard any politician talk about the importance of supporting our troops and defeating the terrorists? They are few and far between.

Our responsibility is to keep the faith, to continue serving our troops and supporting them until their mission is complete and they can all come home! We sent them over there so now it's our duty to help them finish the job - so sponsor a MAF care package today and send some much needed support to our soldiers, marines, airmen, sailors and guardsmen serving over in Afghanistan.

SOLDIER LAMENTS: "NO ONE REALLY CARES. ALL THE 'SUPPORT THE TROOPS' STUFF IS BUMPER STICKER DEEP"

As much as we have worked hard to try to help our troops feel appreciated and supported while deployed overseas, we're not doing enough! Too many of our troops feel that Americans don't care about the mission or the men and women sacrificing for it!

"We're bored with it," said Matthew Farwell, who served in the U.S. Army for five years including 16 months in eastern Afghanistan, where he sometimes received letters from grade school students addressed to the brave Marines in Iraq ? the wrong war.

"We all laugh about how no one really cares," he said. "All the 'support the troops' stuff is bumper sticker deep."
- NBC 8/22/2012

Never before in our nation's history have we as a nation put almost 12 years of time, effort, money, and most precious of all, American lives lost, into an effort like this conflict in Afghanistan. And yet, here today, we've lost the energy and fervor with which we supported our troops before. They noticed.

We must do better. We can't let this be OUR legacy as a generation. When this war began, and the anti-war protesters took to the streets, we stood by our troops, we got our American flags out and rallied to support the troops in the streets because we wanted to show the world that this would not be a repeat of the shameful way Americans treated their troops during Vietnam.

We didn't want the War on Terror to end up being a repeat of that sad chapter in American history. Now we're in danger of allowing that to happen to our troops in Afghanistan. We must show our support to correct this trend immediately!

DON'T LET OUR TROOPS FEEL FORGOTTEN ANYMORE! WE NEED TO SEND  A SURGE OF SUPPORT TO REMIND OUR TROOPS THAT WE STILL SUPPORT THEM!

Each care package comes with tons of goodies that our troops love and appreciate, from coffee and cookies to beef jerky and gatorade. Our care packages have the comfort foods they need and personal care items like deodorant, sunblock, wet wipes and lip balm that help them deal with the tough environment!

SPONSORING A MAF CARE PACKAGE IS AN EASY, AFFORDABLE, AND TAX-DEDUCTIBLE WAY TO SHOW THE TROOPS THAT YOU CARE!

Attacks by radical Islamist Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters yesterday are a stark reminder that our troops are fighting terrorists who are truly deranged and care nothing for the lives of innocents.

In the deadliest day of attacks this year, insurgents and terrorists killed at least 38 innocent people and injured over 100 others civilians.

Our troops are fighting an enemy who will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals, spread their radical view of Islam around the world and destroy our country and our way of life that they despise so much.

But our troops are standing in their way! Send a care package of support to our brave troops serving overseas and help put a stop to the terrorists and their plots to kill Americans and our allies.

Islamist suicide bombers targeted markets crowded with Ramadan shoppers and a major provincial hospital in Afghanistan on Tuesday, killing at least 38 people and wounding close to 100.

The bloodshed underscored a surge in fighting ahead of a withdrawal by most Western combat troops and handover to Afghan forces winding up in 2014. NATO-led forces have been struggling to eliminate Taliban insurgent bastions, especially in the east.

Suicide bombings in markets in the southwest province of Nimroz killed at least 28 people - 18 of them civilians and three policemen - and wounded over 70, police said, in the deadliest day of violence in the normally peaceful region since 2001.

Women and children and at least three members of the Afghan security forces were among the dead in Zaranj, the capital of the largely rural province, which lies on Afghanistan's western border with Iran.

Another bomber blew himself up in front of Zaranj hospital, while two others detonated explosive vests in other areas of the city, killing mostly civilians, President Hamid Karzai's office said in a statement.

The toll in Zaranj was expected to rise, provincial governor Abdul Karim Barahawi said. "The attackers blew themselves up in crowded markets to target civilians. There was no government installation nearby," Barahawi said.

Another 10 civilians were killed and 28 injured when a bomb went off in a bazaar in Dashte Archi district in the northern province of Kunduz, district Governor Sheikh Sadruddin said.
