ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 7, 2024) — Augustana College announces the election of two members of the college’s Board of Trustees. Robert Anderson (above) and Ronald Workman (below), both 1980 Augustana graduates, were elected January 27 at the college’s winter retreat, held in Rock Island.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 6, 2024) — Twelve Augustana College students are assisting local residents file their tax returns through the United Way Quad Cities Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) Coalition. Olivia Melton, associate professor of accounting, said the initiative serves Quad Cities’ residents and benefits students, who gain problem-solving experience.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 5, 2024) — Two Augustana College environmental studies majors presented at the Southeastern Fishes Council conference hosted at the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute on November16-November18.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (January 24, 2024) — A $6.7 million Independent Colleges Capital Investment Grant from the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) is being used to renovate Augustana College’s Erickson Residence Center. A total of $400 million was awarded to 45 higher-education institutions in Illinois with an eye on building the state’s future workforce.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (January 17, 2024) — Dr Gauri A Pitale, associate dean of students for diversity, equity and inclusion at Bridgewater College, in Bridgewater, Virginia, has been selected as Augustana College’s next Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Dr Pitale will join the college February 29. She succeeds Dr Lisa Durant-Jones, who has served as interim vice president since July 31.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (January 9, 2024) — Dr Reggie Williams, professor of Christian ethics at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, will be the keynote speaker at Augustana College’s annual celebration of Dr Martin Luther King Jr on Monday, January 15.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (January 9, 2024) — Moline native Braden Frazelle was sworn in as an Augustana police officer January 3.

Friends and family gathered at Augustana’s Hamann Concert Hall in Bergendoff Hall for the swearing in by Vice President and Dean of Student Life Dr Wes Brooks. Dr Brooks commended Frazelle for his contributions to keeping Augustana a safe home away from home for students from all over the world. 

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (December 21, 2023) — Augustana College ranked N° 9 in the Wall Street Journal/College Pulse 2024 Best Colleges in the US ranking of highest-ranked liberal-arts schools in the Midwest. According to The Wall Street Journal, the ranking emphasizes how much each school boosts student outcomes beyond what is expected.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (December 18, 2023) — Augustana College junior Niah Tyler, of Silvis, Illinois (61282), presented at the annual American Geophysical Union, AGU, meeting in San Francisco. The event, held December 11-December 15, is attended by more than 25,000 attendees from 100 countries.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (December 18, 2023) — More than 45 Augustana College students participated in the annual celebration of the Festival of Sankta Lucia on December 4 at the college's Ascension Chapel.

The celebration, held at Augustana's Ascension Chapel, commemorated the Sankta Lucia Festival with traditional Scandinavian Christmas carols, lessons and poetry.
