Illinois Poet Laureate Mark Turcotte Brings Experience, Poetry to Knox College

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (October 6, 2026) — Knox College will welcome Illinois Poet Laureate Mark Turcotte for a reading and discussion on Friday, October 9, 4PM, in the Bookfellow Room inside Seymour Library. Turcotte is a Native American poet and the current Illinois Poet Laureate, earning the honor in 2025. He has published two poetry books, Exploding Chippewas and Feathered Heart.

Knox College Honors and Welcomes Faculty at Opening Convocation

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (September 30, 2026) — At its 2026 Opening Convocation, Knox College honored teaching excellence and welcomed its newest faculty members. Provost and Dean of the Faculty Melissa Glenn. introduced seven new members of the Knox faculty.

"These talented educators and scholars have joined us from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines," Glenn said.

"They will be enriching the intellectual life of the College."

Knox College Dining Services Staff Members Work Opening of Obama Presidential Center

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (September 29, 2026) — Members of the Knox College Dining Services staff received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work at the opening of the Obama Presidential Center this summer. After a dedication ceremony on June 18, the Presidential Center officially opened to the public the following day.

Messages of Community and Caring for Self and Others Highlight Knox College Opening Convocation

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (September 24, 2026) — Knox College officially began its 189th academic year on a traditionally fall day on Monday, September 14, with its annual Opening Convocation. Held on the South Lawn in front of Old Main, the event honored the accomplishments of students, faculty, and staff over the past year and welcomed the start of a new one. Grand Marshal Jennifer Templeton led the procession, followed by senior staff.

Knox’s Explore and Engage event divided students into groups for a walking tour of downtown.

This year's schedule builds on relationships that Knox has developed with musicians over many years, with several artists returning to Galesburg in new projects and configurations.

Knox College Welcomes New Students from 35 States and 16 Countries

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (September 11, 2026) — Knox College rolled out the purple and gold carpet on Tuesday, September 8, to welcome 285 new students to campus and begin the 2026-27 academic year. The College's newest students consist of 240 first-years and 45 transfers. Included in newest members of the Prairie Fire family are 34 international students, 110 student-athletes, and 126 domestic students of color.

GALESBURG, ILLINOIS (June 16, 2026) — Knox College is excited to introduce Dale Compton as its new Cross Country and Distance coach bringing a proven track record of athlete development and championship success to Galesburg. Compton previously served as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at the University of Puget Sound in Seattle, Washington.
