Umut Acar, Chicago's Consul General of the Republic of Turkey, will present the first in St. Ambrose's latest series of Middle East Institute lectures.
Born in Ünye, Turkey, Acar received his undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences of Gazi University, and started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1998. Since then, he has also served as the Turkish General in Frankfurt, Third Secretary to the Turkish Embassy in Sofia, and Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
For its 10th consecutive year, St. Ambrose is embarking on a year-long, College of Arts and Sciences-led series of lectures, films, concerts, artistic performances and exhibits all related to a common theme. For the 2017-18 academic year, the theme is Faces of Globalization, with the campus and greater community invited to learn about and discuss the impact globalization has had on religion, migration, war, finance, trade, culture, music, and art.
