The Bob & Tom Comedy All-Star Tour

The Capitol Theatre

Friday, February 27, 7:30 p.m.

Bob and TomI've got one for ya.

How do you get seven comedians to screw in a light bulb?

You buy a ticket to The Bob & Tom Comedy All-Star Tour at Davenport's Capitol Theatre on February 27, wait outside the stage doors after the show is over, and ask them, really politely, "Could you all help me screw in a light bulb?"

Hey, comedy's their job, not mine.

If you're a fan of Bob & Tom's wildly popular, nationally syndicated radio program, you'll likely be acquainted with the septet of talents recruited for the duo's latest national tour. But in case you've missed the comics' appearances on Comedy Central, Country Music Television, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Last Comic Standing, et cetera, et cetera, just how familiar with them are you when they're more than just a disembodied radio voice?

Try matching the touring comedian's (or comedienne's) name with his or her mug shot (scroll your cursor over the photos for their alphabetical equivalents):

1) Donnie Baker

2) Scott Dunn

3) Chick McGee

4) Patti Vasquez

5) Greg Warren

6) Tim Wilson

7) Bob Zany

Quad City Flute Association Membership Showcase Concert

First Congregational Church in Moline

Friday, February 20, 7 p.m.

members of the Quad City Flute Association"We're not really a flute ensemble," says Quad City Flute Association (QCFA) President Lynne Stukart, "because there are already other flute choirs in the area. What we are, basically, is a network - a society for any interested flute player or flute supporter that wants to get together and come to recitals and master classes."

That doesn't mean, however, that the public can't enjoy the talents behind this newly formed music organization, which began meeting on the first of the year. After the QCFA's January 18 guest recital with Western Illinois University's Virginia Broffitt (for which, says, Stukart, "we had an outstanding turn-out"), society members are set to perform in the Quad City Flute Association Membership Showcase Concert, taking place at Moline's First Congregational Church (2201 7th Ave.) on February 20.

Friday's event, says Stukart, will feature solos by area flute players Laura Everts and Karen McClintock, high-schoolers Christina Ehlers and Erin Kleiber, and Stukart herself, playing the Native American piece "The Seventh Healing Song of John Joseph (Blue)." QCFA officers Audra Bailey and Cheryl Jordan will team up for a duet, as will Sue Schwegler and Quad City Symphony Orchestra flutist Janet Stodd, and the evening will climax with a group rendition of J.S. Bach's Arioso, from Cantata 156.

Upcoming events for the association include a springtime forum for flute teachers and students and March 22's meet-and-greet for Walter Haedrich - longtime principal flutist for the Quad City Symphony - and Stukart invites anyone with a strong interest in the flute to chat with QCFA representatives at February 20's concert. "With 27 members after one month," she says, "we're not doin' so bad!"

Admission to the QCFA Membership Showcase concert is free, with goodwill donations accepted at the door, and for more information on the group, visit QCFluteAssociation.com.

George Thorogood & the Destroyers

Adler Theatre

Sunday, March 1, 7 p.m.

George ThorogoodDear Mr. Thorogood:

I really like girls, but I can't stop lovin' my sweet little lady, a kind-hearted woman named Christine. And I'm in so much trouble. Even though I'm six days on the road, which is nothing new, I tell her I'm a steady-rollin' man who'll treat her right, and that "nobody but me can shake your money maker." But she says I'm half a boy, half a man. She says "You talk too much," and "You don't love me (you don't care)," and "Get a haircut." And now she's gone. Long gone.

Now I'm in trouble everyday, a bad boy seeking a drifter's escape. At night time, I drink alone - one bourbon, one Scotch, one beer - and wake with a blues hangover, howlin' for my baby. My friend Robert tell me to cool it, but I've got a one-way ticket on a hellbound train with no particular place to go. I'm living with the shades pulled down, sayin' "That's it, I quit," and I don't trust nobody.

But you got to lose to win. I'll change my style from the same thing, the usual, and be a rock-and-roll man again. I might go with Louie to Frisco or Memphis - or Anytown USA - and as the years go passing by, this love doctor will be reelin' and rockin'. I'm ready to move it.

Just not tonight. I'm servin' 99 days in jail.

Your restless fan who's feelin' bad to the bone,

John Hardy

George Thorogood & the Destroyers play Davenport's Adler Theatre on March 1, and to hear at least a few of the blues rockers' 52 aforementioned songs, reserve tickets at (800) 745-3000 or AdlerTheatre.com.

Doubt

Harrison Hilltop Theatre

Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 8

The Green Room Theatre's Doubt"Good morning, Sister Aloysius!"

"Good morning yourself, Sister James. You seem even more chipper than usual."

"I am! I'm going to the theatre tonight!"

"Hmph. The theatre."

"Yes! The Green Room Theatre company is opening its new production, and I'm sure it's going to be marvelous! It's a Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning drama by John Patrick Shanley, and the recent movie version with Meryl Streep is nominated for five Oscars, and the New York Times called the play a 'tight, absorbing' piece 'written with an uncanny blend of compassion and detachment!'"

"I see."

"It's supposed to be suspenseful and funny and haunting, and it's directed by Tyson Danner, who also directed the Green Room's john & jen and co-starred in Angels in America ... ."

"Uh huh ... ."

" ... and it has such a wonderful cast! Melissa McBain, Jeremy Mahr, Jessica Stratton, Shellie Moore Guy ... I'm so excited! Do you want to know what it's about?"

"I know what it's about. And I won't allow you to attend a play like that."

" ... "

"What?"

"You just don't like it! You don't like it because it's set in a parochial school, and it explores questions of faith and moral certainty, and it talks about Frosty the Snowman! Well, I like Frosty the Snowman! Why won't you let me see it?!

"I have doubts. I have ... such doubts ... ."

Doubt will be performed February 27 through March 8 (Fridays through Sundays) at Davenport's Harrison Hilltop Theatre, and tickets are available by calling (563) 650-2396 or visiting TheGreenRoomTheatre.com.
