The Christophers (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

The Drama (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, FilmScene at the Chauncey, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - It's been many months since I've felt so (wonderfully) anxiously unsettled at the cineplex. IMDb listing.

Elepahnts: Giants of the Desert (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Exit 8 (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX) - IMDb listing.

Faces of Death (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - A tight, scary, unexpectedly crafty meta-commentary built on the notion that we can no longer instinctively believe anything we're shown on-screen. On any screen. IMDb listing.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest (G; FilmScene at the Chauncey) - IMDb listing.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off40th Anniversary (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema)  John Hughes' incessantly re-watchable comedy, with Matthew Broderick and pals staying three steps ahead of their principal and reveling in the best playing-hooky day ever, is as wonderfully blithe and meaningless as the writer/director's high-school filmography ever got. IMDb listing.

Fight Club: 4K Remaster (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

GOAT  (PG; VIP Cinemas) - Advertising the film as “from the artists that made KPop Demon Hunters and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is really just a grabby way of saying GOAT kind of looks like them, but the animation does have some visual kick, and the script provides a number of decent verbal gags. IMDb listing.

Gojira (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Wednesday, April 22, 10 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

A Great Awakening  (PG-13; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

The Greatest Showman (PG; Aledo Opera House: Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 19, 6 p.m.) - When this bio-pic remembers it's a musical, it's pretty great, yet that doesn't happen as often as you might want, and you can easily imagine star Hugh Jackman standing just off-screen, poking the director with a stick and asking, “How about a song and dance now?” IMDb listing.

Hoppers (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - I did not expect this 105-minute charmer to be so unfailingly hilarious, nor for it to be Disney/Pixar's non-sequel high point since 2020's underrated Onward, or perhaps even 2015's Inside OutIMDb listing.

Hunting Matthew Nichols (R; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

Into America's Wild (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Is This Thing On? (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Saturday, April 18, 6:30 p.m.) - The scrappy, indie-style filmmaking and truthful performances make the experience, if not novel, at least continually pleasurable. IMDb listing.

Journey to Space (not rated; Putnam Museum & Sciemce Center) - Says narrator Patrick Stewart of the genial scientists on-screen, "It's all about getting the job done and having a little fun" - an apt description for this edu-doc itself. IMDb listing.

Kapodistrias (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Wednesday, April 22) - IMDb listing.

Kung Fu Fest in 35mm (not rated; The Last Picture House: Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18) - LastPictureHouse.com.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, The Last Picture House, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Lorne (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX) - IMDb listing.

Menace II Society (R; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Tuesday, April 21, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Michael: Early-Access Screening (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Wednesday, April 22, 6 & 6:45 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Mile End Kids (R; VIP Cinemas) - IMDb listing.

A Minecraft Movie (PG; Aledo Opera House: Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 3 p.m.) - It's hard to imagine a more heedless, wildly overscaled performance than the one Jack Black delivers here. Given the context, it's absolute bliss. IMDb listing.

Newsies (PG; Aledo Opera House: Thursday, April 23, 6 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Normal (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - IMDb listing.

Oceans (G; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - The movie's 85 minutes occasionally crawl by as deliberately as its sea-floor denizens, yet it's hard to be too disappointed by a film that provides so many extraordinary sights. IMDb listing.

Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood (R; The Last Picture House: Tuesday, April 21, and Wednesday, April 22, 6:40 p.m.) - The primary shock of Quentin Tarantino's ninth feature is that it's positively teeming with heart – an unabashed love letter to Tinseltown fringe figures of a bygone era who, as the fairytale title suggests, are eminently deserving of Happily Ever Afters. IMDb listing.

Over Your Dead Body: Early-Access Screening (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX: Wednesday, April 22, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Pahaad (not rated; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Cinemark.com.

Palestine '36 (not rated; FilmScene on the Ped Mall) - IMDb listing.

Project Hail Mary (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Voy 61 Drive In Theatre, FilmScene on the Ped Mall, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Phil Lord's and Christopher Miller's sci-fi outing is a lot of fun, but given its scenario, is the focus on humor, which at times lapses into pure shtick, more hindrance than help? IMDb listing.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (R; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - This horror-comedy followup proves all-too resistible, its biggest shock being the leads' inability to just shut the hell up and enjoy the demented ride. IMDb listing.

Reminders of Him (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas) - This latest Colleen Hover romangtic melodrama is more surprisingly tough-minded than it needed to be, the leads share genuine chemistry, and I didn't feel like a sap for letting a few admittedly manipulated tears roll down my cheeks. IMDb listing.

Scream 7 (R; VIP Cinemas) - Depressing as hell, because this preposterous, frequently insulting continuation – easily the series' low point – also netted the Scream franchise its highest opening-weekend grosses to date. IMDb listing.

Soylent Green (PG; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Wednesday, April 22, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Ssssstoner Snake (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Monday, April 20, 10 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (PG; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, The Last Picture House, Voy 61 Drive In Theatre, FilmScene at the Chauncey, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - Barring one repeated gag involving a slow-moving robot that appears air-lifted in from the Zootopia DMV, you'd be hard-pressed to find a single legitimate joke – and that's with Jack Black reprising his role  IMDb listing.

Superpower Dogs (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - Daniel Ferguson provides enough globe-trotting action for a James Bond flick, treating us to first-rate training footage and re-created missions in locales ranging from the Canadian Rockies to the Italian coast to a debris-strewn site near New York's Ground Zero. IMDb listing.

T. Rex (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

Twin Peaks: The Return - Parts 9 & 10 (not rated; FilmScene at the Chauncey: Monday, April 20, 9 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Videodrome (R; The Last Picture House: Sunday, April 19, 7 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

Wild Rescue (not rated; Putnam Museum & Science Center) - IMDb listing.

WrestleMania 42 (not rated; VIP Cinemas: Saturday, April 18, 5 p.m.) - IMDb listing.

You, Me & Tuscany (PG-13; Davenport 53rd 18 + IMAX, VIP Cinemas, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) - This sunny, goofy rom-com is pure formula, and often uninspired formula. Here's hoping we get more releases just like it. IMDb listing.
