“To All the Books” Screening and Filmmaker Q&A at the Last Picture House -- November 10.

Tuesday, November 10, 7 p.m.

The Last Picture House, 325 East Second Street, Davenport IA

With the screening boasting a visit by the author whose works were adapted into the hit thrillers Bird Box and Other Mommy, Davenport's The Last Picture House will host a November 10 showing of the forthcoming documentary To All the Books, the event featuring special guest Josh Malerman in a post-show book signing and Q&A led by venue co-owners and filmmakers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods.

Part rock star, part literary icon, Josh Malerman is a creative force of nature. From penning the global sensation Bird Box (which became a Netflix smash starring Sandra Bullock) and Incidents Around the House (adapted into October's Jessica Chastain hit Other Mommy) to writing the theme song for the Emmy-winning series Shameless and touring the world with his band, Malerman's life is as unpredictable and thrilling as one of his novels. But behind every writer’s success is the haunting presence of the blank page. To All the Books invites audiences to ride shotgun with Malerman as he wrestles with the creative process of his next novel, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the highs, lows, and beautiful chaos of artistic life. Brimming with raw honesty and unfiltered passion, this fly-on-the-wall documentary is a must-see for readers, writers, and dreamers alike.

Malerman a New York Times bestselling author and one of two singer/songwriters for the rock band The High Strung. Beyond Bird Box and Incidents Around the House, his other novels include Unbury Carol, Inspection, A House at the Bottom of a Lake, Pearl, Goblin, Daphne, and Malorie, the sequel to Bird Box. Among his professional laurels, the author received the Michigan Notable Book Award for Bird Box, the Bram Stoker Award for Short Fiction for 2020's "One Last Transformation," and the 2024 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella, received for "Half the House is Haunted." Malerman lives in Michigan with his wife, the artist-musician Allison Laakko.

Iowa natives Scott Beck and Bryan Woods are best known as the writers and creators of A Quiet Place, starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, which grossed more than $340 million worldwide. Beck's and Woods’ other credits include writing and directing Sony Pictures’ 65 starring Adam Driver, which was released worldwide and later debuted as the number-one film on Netflix; the acclaimed thriller Haunt; writing and producing the Stephen King adaptation of The Boogeyman for 20th Century Studios; and writing, directing, and producing the A24 horror hit Heretic.

The advance screening of To All the Books will take place on November 10, with the film starting at 7 p.m. and followed by a Q&A with Josh Malerman led by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. The night wraps up with a book signing with Malerman, and more information on the evening is available by visiting LastPictureHouse.com.
