Banditos at the Raccoon Motel -- July 13.

Thursday, July 13, 7 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Touring in support of their 2022 release Right On, an album that Holler Country said "breathes fresh life into an outfit looking to expand boundaries while maintaining its core musical mojo," the touring rockers of Banditos headline a July 13 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, their latest recording a work in which, according to No Depression, "Banditos’ members have their own musical moments before shifting into a beautiful electric guitar interlude and final build that makes stars of them all."

Banditos began in 2010 when singer/guitarist Corey Parsons and singer/banjo player Stephen Pierce starting playing acoustic music in Birmingham's local indie/rock scene. They busked around the city and were eventually invited to play a show at their favorite local saloon, adding Mary Beth Richardson on vocals and percussion, Randy Wade on drums, Danny Vines on bass, and Jeffery Salter playing lead guitar. From their early days in Birmingham, the band lived together in the Crestwood neighborhood, writing songs together, and touring heavily. While on tour, the group found themselves constantly playing shows in Nashville, so after about two years in Birmingham, they decided to relocate to East Nashville. Over the next three years, Banditos played more than 600 shows, and in 2014, the group played South by Southwest, where they caught the eye of Bloodshot Records, and were signed to the label soon after. Marah Eakin of The A.V. Club said of the group, "The perfect soundtrack to a rowdy hang, the band blends traditional instruments like banjo and pedal steel with modern sensibilities, resulting in something that’s both uniquely now and uniquely American."

In 2015, Banditos debuted their self-titled album, most of which was recorded at Tokic's the Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville. After the album was released, Banditos was featured in Taco Bell's Feed the Beat campaign, a program that helps feed touring musicians and allows fans to discover new bands. Banditos debuted their music video for "The Breeze" via Rolling Stone's Web site in the summer of 2015, with the magazine's Andrew Leahey saying, "Equal parts alt-country twang and garage rock bang, [Banditos] wears its influences proudly, recalling everything from ZZ Top's greasy boogie to the Alabama Shakes' coed soul." The raves continued for 2017's followup album Visionland and last year's Right On, which inspired Americana Highways to rave, "Every song is rock solid. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself listening to this album repeatedly. And loudly."

Bandits performs their Davenport engagement on July 13 with additional sets by Shadwick Wilde (performing music from his forthcoming album), Quiet Hollers, and Fox Royale, admission to the 7 p.m. concert is $15, and tickets are available by visiting TheRaccoonMotel.com.
