Boasting such top-10 charting singles as “$2.00 Coke,” “Radio Romance,” and “I'm Gonna be Bad Today,” the national institution that is The Carl Acuff Jr. Show brings its tour to Maquoketa's Ohnward Fine Arts Center on June 15, the genre-blending headliner's additional credits including the hosting of TV's Ozarks Tonight and crooning such other hit songs as “Make the World Go Away” and “Getting Over You.”
Since 1992, the Carl Acuff Jr. Variety Show band has become a treasured, nationally touring extravaganza, and the band's 2024 show contains all the elements that have made Carl and the band so popular over the last 32 years. For this year's stage presentation, the ensemble will deliver electrifying renditions of new and old country, gospel, nostalgic rock and roll, Motown, do wop, and disco, with healthy doses of comedy, impersonations, and audience participation added to the mix. As always, The Carl Acuff Jr. Show will also offer a salute to all of our men and women in uniform from past, present, and future, a celebration that routinely inspires audiences to their feet.
As always, Carl Acuff Jr. and his stellar band will open the show with a sampling of their greatest hits, with the headliner's discography including such albums as Young Star, Heart Over Mind, You're in Love with the Wrong Man, Singin' the Hits, and In God We Trust. Over the years, Acuff has enjoyed five Independent Country Hits in the United States and abroad, and has been nominated for and won many prestigious awards, among them the 2011 ORAE Entertainer of the Year and 2011 ORAE Male Vocalist of the Year citations. The Carl Acuff Jr. Show has been entertaining audiences in 47 of the continental United States since 1992, and adored by audiences for providing a high-energy variety of music and comedy for crowds of all ages.
