Choral Dynamics: “The Beauty of Christmas" at the Orpheum Theatre -- December 5 through 7.

Friday, December 5, through Sunday, December 7

Orpheum Theatre, 57 South Kellogg Street, Galesburg IL

With this year's series of seasonal concerts benefiting the FISH of Galesburg food pantry, the revered vocal ensemble Choral Dynamics presents its yuletide show The Beauty of Christmas at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre December 5 through 7, director Alisa's production designed to celebrate the beauties of nature, tradition, decorations, seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child, home, family, friends, and the Nativity.

In The Beauty of Christmas, Choral Dynamics invites audiences to step back from the stress and rush of the holiday season and be reminded of the simple beauty of this special time of year. Knowing how easy it is to be caught up in the things that make December the busiest month of the year -- shopping, baking, decorating, parties, school performances…the list goes on and on -- Choral Dynamics hopes their latest concert will reflect and remember all the things that make the holidays not just busy, but really beautiful. The show will center on the beauty of nature, traditions, family, decorations, the joy of children, and, of course, the beauty of the Nativity as the Choral Dynamics singers tell stories through music, the concert's repertoire including “Winter Wonderland," “Silver Bells," “The Christmas Song," and “Silent Night"

Choral Dynamics was founded in Mundelein, Illinois in 1969 by Gerry Traxler. His vision was to create choral groups in cities across America whose goal would be to perform shows that would raise money for charities in need. When two members of the original chorus moved to Galesburg in 1975, Traxler challenged them to begin a Choral Dynamics group in their new hometown. In January of 1976, 14 area residents met to organize a unique choral group whose goal would be to perform shows that would raise money for local charities. In June of that year, Choral Dynamics presented their first program A Musical Picnic, and a tradition was born.

The original cast of Choral Dynamics has expanded to include hundreds of individuals who have dedicated themselves to this simple philosophy: helping our community through song. With a passion for singing and a willingness to give of their time, the members of Choral Dynamics have partnered with dozens of community organizations to raise more than $674,054, and in the process of helping the Galesburg community, the group has presented 91 memorable programs to the delight of audiences. Along with incredible choral music, each show features soloists, small ensembles, and dancing, and the members of Choral Dynamics have been proud to be a part of the Galesburg musical landscape and to lend helping hands to groups in need.

Choral Dynamics is excited to announce that the beneficiary for our December show is FISH of Galesburg. This organization has been serving residents of Knox County since 1970. Throughout their 55 years of operation they have sought to provide enough food to support an individual/family for a three to five day period of time. FISH is a “choice pantry” that allows guests to select their food items by taking only what they want and are able to use in the household. This grocery-store atmosphere means a dignified experience for all who use the pantry. Delivery options are also available for those who have transportation challenges. With funds from their partnership with Choral Dynamics, FISH will be able to bridge the gap that exists due to challenges in the commodities they are able to access for their clients. This wonderful organization works to bring hope, dignity, and support to everyone who walks through the door.

Choral Dynamics will present their holiday concert event The Beauty of Christmas from December 5 through 7, with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is $4-19, with ages 12 and under free, and more information and tickets are available by calling (309)342-2299 and visiting GalesburgOrpheum.org.
