EyeHateGod, September 5 at RIBCO

Tuesday, September 5, 8 p.m.

Rock Island Brewing Company, 1815 Second Avenue, Rock Island IL

Described by NPR.org as “revered sludge-metal gods,” the rockers of EyeHateGod will play a special, Tuesday-night RIBCO concert on a tour that finds bandmates Jimmy Bower and Michael Williams in their 30th year with the group.

Based in New Orleans, the venerated heavy-metal ensemble was founded by guitarist Bower and drummer Joey LaCaze in the spring of 1988, with Williams recruited to be EyeHateGod's lead vocalist. The musicians quickly became a principal force in the rising Southern sludge-core movement alongside groups including Crowbar and Down, and in 1990, released their debut album In the Name of Suffering, described by AllMusic.com's William York as a work that “captures the band's compelling ugliness in its most raw state.” Since then, EyeHateGod has recorded studio releases including 1993's Take as Needed for Pain, 2000's Confederacy of Ruined Lives, and 2014's self-titled album, and the band's Rock Island concert lands in a national tour that has already found the group playing New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

EyeHateGod performs locally with an opening set by Cro-Mags, advance tickets are $18, and more information is available by calling (309)793-1999 or visiting RIBCO.com.
