Gasoline Lollipops at the Raccoon Motel -- June 22.

Saturday, June 22, 7 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Touring in support of their 2022 album Nightmares that The Sound Advocate praised for its blend of "an open, acoustically-based sound with ferocious, eclectic playing," the the indie rockers of Gasoline Lollipops headline a June 22 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, the group also lauded by New Noise magazine for delivering "a powerful mix of Americana, outlaw country, and just enough punk-rock swagger to appeal to those who won’t admit to liking those other two genres."

As detailed at GasolineLollipops.com, "Front man Clay Rose was raised between an outlaw, truck-driving father in the mountains of Colorado and a country song-writing mama in the sticks outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Clay’s penchant for open roads and trouble making are the backbone of the Gas Pops’ sound. The rest of the band consists of Don Ambory, Scott Coulter, 'Bad' Brad Morse, and Kevin Matthews, who all come equipped with music degrees from Chicago, Boston, Jacksonville, and Denver, respectively. They each add flavors of their own background and heritage, further diversifying the band’s signature sound. Gasoline Lollipops are three-time winners of Colorado Daily’s 'Best Local Band' award, and two-time winners of Denver Westword’s 'Best Country Band' award. ... [T]hey have toured throughout the U.S., Belgium, the Netherlands, and Belize. In 2018, they made Billboard’s top 10 Spotify chart, as well as Pandora’s top 10 Trend Setters list."

Also at their Web site, Gasoline Lollipops' sound is described as "bleeding rock and roll," and in an interview with 5280.com, band leader Rose defined the description: "I think there’s a sincerity and a vulnerability that come from folk music that you don’t typically hear in rock – there are miles and miles between Leonard Cohen and Led Zeppelin. One was there to publicly sort through the demons and the blessings and to evolve as a human being onstage or on-mic, and the other one was there to shake off the cares and worries and to party and get laid, and never the twain shall meet. I’ve always had a deep need for both of those worlds – they just sort of naturally blend. I think that there’s a real valuable catharsis of punk rock, for instance, where you get into the pit, and all the anger and frustration and anxiety of the week just sweats out of you in a community of people who are doing the same thing. There’s a camaraderie in the pit of a punk show that you’re not going to find anywhere else, kind of like the constructive and therapeutic function of destruction. And in folk music, it’s a very solitary kind of healing. So that’s what I would call 'bleeding rock ’n’ roll' – the hybrid of those two things.”

Gasoline Lollipops play their Davenport engagement on June 22, admission to the 7 p.m. concert is $13.22, and tickets are available by visiting TheRaccoonMotel.com.
