Dr. Archana Wagle and Dr. Marian Lee (performing here in 2014) in the Genesis Doctors Holiday Recital -- November 12.

Sunday, November 12, 2 p.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa Street, Davenport IA

Now in its eighth year, the Genesis Doctors Holiday Recital will find local physicians, family members, and other featured talents performing a wide variety of classical and holiday-themed music, presented in a fundraiser benefiting music-therapy programs for Genesis Health System hospice patients.

This year's program will showcase the musical gifts of seven Genesis physicians and their accompanists. Dr. Shashinath Chandrahasegowda, performing with her daughter, will deliver a light vocal piece in the Indian language of Kannada, while a duo popular from previous Genesis Doctors in Recital events – Dr. Marian Lee and Dr. Archana Wagle – will entertain on piano and violin, respectively. Organist Ahreum Han Congdon performs Guy Bovet's “Salamanca”; bass player Dr. Paul Hartman and pianist Matt Bishop play movements one and four of composer Alec Wilder's “Small Suite”; Sue Wiley plays the flute opposite Dr. Randy Lewis' piano in Astor Piazolla's “Libertango,” with Dr. Lewis also delivering a solo rendition of Beethoven's “Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op. 31, No. 2.”

Holiday tunes, meanwhile, will come courtesy of vocalist Dr. Michelle Yates and area pianist Russ Reyman, presenting their take on Amy Grant's “Grown Up Christmas List”; woodwind player Dr. Frank Claudy, offering a pair of seasonal treats in Rick Gagne's “Green Christmas” and Tommy Coen's and Eddie Moloney's “Christmas Eve”; and Danelle Kvapil, playing the holiday classic “What Child Is This?” on alto saxophone.

Music-therapy programs are available to Genesis hospice patients in their homes, Genesis hospitals, nursing homes, and at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, with such programs shown to bring added quality to life, diminish pain, and promote relaxation during end-of-life care.

Tickets to the 2017 Genesis Doctors Holiday Recital are $15-20 with ages 12 and under free, and more information and reservations are available by calling (563)421-6865 or visiting GenesisHealth.com.
