Jerry Douglas at the Redstone Room -- March 9.

Friday, March 9, 8 p.m.

The Redstone Room, 129 Main Street, Davenport IA

His astounding list of accolades including 14 Grammy Awards and 27 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jerry Douglas performs a March 9 Redstone Room concert in support of his ensemble's most recent album What If, described by PopMatters.com as “a superb instrumental showcase” and “an endlessly enjoyable listen.”

Born in Warren, Ohio, in 1956, Douglas began playing the Dobro at age eight with encouragement from his father, who was also a bluegrass musician. By his teen years, Jerry was already a member of his father's band, and was discovered at a festival by The Country Gentlemen, who took him on tour and eventually brought him into the recording studio. From there, Douglas established himself as a hugely in-demand session musician, and during the latter half of the 1970s, worked with the likes of Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman, Tony Rice, and J.D. Crowe & the New South.

Since the release of his 1979 debut album Fluxology, Douglas' credits have been nothing short of phenomenal. In addition to his solo recordings, Douglas has played on more than 1,600 albums over nearly four decades, and has recorded with artists as diverse as Garth Brooks, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton, Dolly Parton, and Keb' Mo'. One of his Grammys was earned for his contribution to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. In 2004, Douglas was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the NEA – the United States' highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. And in addition to his Grammy and IBMA citations, Douglas received three CMA Awards for Musician of Year, as well as three Americana Music Association Awards including 2011 recognition with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jerry Douglas performs locally with an opening set by Kendra Swanson, tickets to his 8 p.m. concert are $30-35, and more information and reservations are available by calling (563)326-1333 or visiting RiverMusicExperience.org.
