Joyann Parker at Kavanaugh's -- September 30.

Saturday, September 30, 8 p.m.

Kavanaugh's Hilltop Tap, 1228 30th Street, Rock Island IL

Described by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune as “a powerful, animated blues-rock singer” and “a writer of praiseworthy originals,” singer/songwriter/guitarist Parker performs locally in a special concert event presented by the Mississippi Valley Blues Society.

Based in Minneapolis, Parker represented Minnesota and was a quarter-finalist at the 2015 International Blues Challenge, and in the two years since, has performed nationwide at dozens of blues venues and festivals including Des Moines' Central Iowa Winter Blues Fest, BB King's Blues Blues Club in Memphis, and Michigan's Kalamazoo State Theatre, where she opened for Grammy winner Robert Cray. Her 2015 album debut On the Rocks was nominated for Independent Blues Music Awards for “Best New Artist” and “Best New Album” and won the Minnesota Blues Society's “Best Self-Produced CD” citation, and also landed on Living Blues magazine's Top 50 Albums Chart. As Bill Wilson stated on his podcast Reflections in Blue, the artist's vocal style is “strong, dynamic, and so very powerful that it is nearly impossible not to respond … . Jayann Parker is a threat on so many levels that it makes my head spin.”

Tickets to Joyann Parker's Kavanaugh's engagement are $8 for Mississippi Valley Blues Society members and $10 for non-members (with membership applications available at the door), and for more information on the September 30 event, call (563)322-5837 or visit MVBS.org.
