Katy Guillen & the Girls at Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel -- December 9.

Saturday, December 9, 7 p.m.

Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel, 304 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Appearing locally in support of their forthcoming album Remember What You Knew Before, the Kansas City-based Katy Guillen & the Girls perform a Moeller Nights concert on December 9, showcasing the blues and roots-rock talents that led American Blues Scene magazine to label them “Blondie meets The Clash meets The Pretenders.”

A seasoned guitarist who picked up her first guitar at age eight and began participating in blues jams around Kansas City at 14, Guillen established the trio in 2012 after she was offered a supporting slot for blues super-group Royal Southern Brotherhood. Being without a backing band, she enlisted the talents of bass player Claire Adams and drummer Stephanie Williams, and two years later, the three musicians released their self-titled debut, which Blues Rock Review deemed “an album that shows a band that absolutely knows that they're capable of becoming major players.”

In addition to emerging as one of Kansas City’s most distinguished acts, Katy Guillen & the Girls have performed at such high-profile events as the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and have opened for bands and performers including The Doobie Brothers and Robin Trower. Their critical plaudits, meanwhile, have continued to amass with their many touring performances and 2016 album Heavy Days, which inspired Blues Blast magazine to rave, “All three band members deliver the goods,” and “rock energy and musical nuance are everywhere to be found.”

Katy Guillen & the Girls' December 9 concert at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel starts at 7 p.m., admission is $8, and more information is available by visiting MoellerNights.com.
