Minus Six Reunion at the Redstone Room at Common Chord -- October 16.

Saturday, October 16, 8 p.m.

The Redstone Room at Common Chord, 129 Main Street, Davenport IA

Delivering a high-energy, fresh sound blending pop, rock, vaudeville jazz, and show tunes, their sets packed with original music, modern hits, and timeless classics, the Quad Cities musicians of Minus Six reunite for an October 16 concert at Davenport's Redstone Room at Common Chord, this upbeat, inclusive, and family-friendly concert boasting the return of lead singer and present Arizona resident Kevin Carton.

A piano-based pop-rock group that formed in 2003, Minus Six has produced four studio albums and a live album, and beyond taking two hiatuses – one for three months in summer of 2010, the other from mid-2011 to mid-2012 – they performed locally and traveled together through 2021. In addition to lead singer and drummer Carton, the band features Kameron Rummans on bass, Matt Sivertsen on saxophone, and Rob Baner on drums, with former members including drummers Jamie Hopkins and Tyler Kaschke. Minus Six takes its name from its lack of six-string guitar, a standard instrument in their genre. Instead, the ensemble relies on piano, saxophone, and bass guitar to provide melodic backing.

Minus Six recorded their first album, Overdue, in a basement studio when the majority of its original four members (Carton, Rummans, Sivertsen, and Kaschke) were still in high school. Following this first effort, a meeting with Matchbox Twenty-affiliated producer Joe Hand encouraged the band members to pursue their music more seriously, resulting in a more professionally produced second album, Some Things Change, in 2005. Since then, the band released Hidden Deep in the Green in 2007, the live album Lucid Dreams in 2012, Come Out from Where You Hide in 2013, and Up Top the Storm in 2018. At the band's Web site, Carton was quoted as saying, “Up Top is the first time that, as a songwriter, I intentionally sought to capitalize on the strengths of each band member. From musical overtures, to digitized synthetic pop and stripped ballads that reveal the vulnerability behind the words sung, this project has something to offer everyone."

The Minus Six reunion takes place in Davenport's Redstone Room at Common Chord on October 16 with an opening set by DMT: A Dave Matthews Tribute, admission to the 8 p.m. concert is $15-20, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)323-8642 and visiting CommonChordQC.org.
