Izaak Opatz at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel -- November 19 and 20.

Monday, November 19, and Tuesday, November 20, 7 p.m.

Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel, 304 East Third Street, Davenport IA

Praised by The Missoulian for his “lovelorn songs with evenly paced melodies and surprising twists” and by WideOpenCountry.com for “putting whimsical touches to songs that are deadly serious,” folk singer/songwriter Izaak Opatz serves as the Moeller Nights headliner on November 19 and 20, demonstrating why Rolling Stone lauded his “quirky Americana crossed with the indie-pop sensibility of the Shins, as performed by a Montana mountain man.”

Based in Los Angeles but born in a small town on Montana's Whitefish Lake, Opatz began playing the guitar in high school, and as a student at the University of Montana, he entered the local-music scene as a member of the chamber folk band Fredrich's Teeth. In 2010, he formed his own country-folk band The Best Westerns with whom he played for several years. But Opetz's burgeoning interest in songwiting led to a move to Nashville – one of his first residencies was a room in the home of famed alt-country musician Jonny Fritz – and an acquaintance with drummer/producer Malachi DeLorenzo, who invited Opatz to record a song on his fourtrack in Echo Park. One song led to several, which led to the release of Opatz's solo debut Mariachi Static, an 11-track album of country, folk, and Americana compositions.

Beyond embarking on tours with artists such as Leslie Stevens and his former host Jonny Fritz, Opatz has been touring extensively in support of Mariachi Static, a release that immediately netted the artist rave reviews. American Songwriter raved about Opatz's talent for “bookending verses with crunchy guitar and employing a bare-bones production style that gives the listener the sense of being in the room as the band plays.” Rolling Stone, meanwhile, extolled “Opatz’s sublime way with a lyric,” and stated, “Opatz is one of a kind, an eccentric singer/songwriter whom you not only connect with, but root for.”

Izaak Opatz plays the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel on November 19 and 20 with opening sets by singer/songwriter Peter Oren, admission to the 7 p.m. shows is $15, and more information is available by visiting MoellerNights.com.
