Described by DrownedInSound.com as “a three-piece from Athens, Georgia who specialize in controlled chaos of the most sumptuous sort,” the indie rockers of Oak House perform a Moeller Nights concert on March 8 in support of their sophomore album Hot or Mood, which the Web site stated “shows a band of unbridled ambition, sonic scope, and potential truly stepping up to become one of their genre's foremost exponents.”
Composed of frontman and guitarist Gregham Cash, drummer Wes Gregory, and bassist Connor Sabula, Oak House formed in January of 2014, the musicians' collective style a blend of psychedelic, experimental, and grunge rock with nods to bands as diverse as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Radiohead. An immediate sensation in their Athens stomping grounds, the trio released its debut album Plastique Cash that September, and critics were immediately impressed, with Flagpole.com calling Oak House “strikingly novel” and “a band brimming with potential,” and the album itself a dynamic statement.”
Following years of regional and national tour stops and festival appearances, Oak House released its follow-up LP Hot or Mood last year, and reviewers were even more lavish in their praise. Paste magazine called the release “a juggernaut of a record, and one that feels like a band coming into their own.” New Noise Magazine wrote, “The album blends tracks that take elements of dream pop and twist them with dissonant and jumpy beats, not afraid to change moods quickly within one song.” And praising Oak House's “vast and genre-less talents,” Impose magazine summarized, “Whether it's metal, straight indie rock, or edging into electronic- and psychedelic-inspired tunes, the band pulls it off flawlessly.”
Oak House plays the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar & Raccoon Motel with an opening set by Slow Caves, tickets are $10, and more information on the evening is available by visiting MoellerNights.com.
