Performing under the direction of Pamela Mumm, the area-favorite crooners of The Music Men Barbershop Chorus of Dubuque will proudly present their 75th annual male-vocalist concert It's a Wonderful Day at the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center on October 28, with the ensemble appearing on the bill alongside their internationally touring special guests the Main Street Barbershop Quartet.

The Music Men Barbershop Chorus is the primary performing ensemble of the Dubuque, Iowa, chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a 23,000 member, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and encouragement of barbershop singing throughout the world. The Dubuque Chapter was chartered in 1949 and has been one of the Tri-State area's most active musical organizations. Membership is open to all men who enjoy singing, with the current membership including men ranging from teenagers to seniors, and from experienced performers to novices. The group's singers meet every Tuesday evening (excluding holidays) from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Summit Congregational United Church of Christ (2885 JFK Road, Dubuque), and visitors are always welcome. Under the direction of Pamela Mumm, the Music Men Barbershop Chorus of Dubuque’s mission is to promote the arts by creating a place where people experience the joy of singing and the harmony that happens when we connect with others as well as growing as individuals and as a chapter.

The Music Men Barbershop Chorus of Dubuque

The Main Street Barbershop Quartet, a traditionally-styled barbershop quartet based in Orlando, Florida, is living proof that there’s still a place for straw hats and arm garters in the upper reaches of a cappella singing. Since being formed in 2011, Main Street Barbershop Quartet has become six-time medalists of the worldwide quartet competition sponsored by the Barbershop Harmony Society. Roger Ross (tenor), Tony DeRosa (lead), Mike McGee (baritone), and Myron Whittlesey (bass) bring a combined 100-plus years of barbershop experience to the stage characterized with soft shoe dance, slapstick routines, and nostalgic songs. Whether it’s the waltz clog, a silly one-liner, or a tender ballad of romance, a typical Main Street Barbershop Quartet show pays respect to the creative singers, dancers, and humorists who blazed the trail in entertaining audiences around the world. The performers' notable past quartets include Keepsake, Max Q, Metropolis, Platinum, and Rounders, and while their involvement within the Barbershop Harmony Society is impressive, all four members of Main Street Barbershop Quartet have been or currently are performers at Walt Disney World with the Dapper Dans of Main Street, USA. When entertaining audiences outside of barbershop, the vocalists' credits include performances in film, television, radio, and musical theatre.

The Music Men Barbershop Chorus of Dubuque and special guests the Main Street Barbershop Quartet will perform in the John & Alice Butler Hall of the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center on October 28, admission to the 8 p.m. concert event is $22, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)585-7469 and visiting Dbq.edu/heritagecenter.
