Legendary songs by two iconic rock acts will fill the Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center on August 20, when The Music of Boston & Journey features the former band's Tommy DeCarlo – a touring Boston singer since 2007 – performing classic hits from the '70s and '80s, and former American Idol contestant Rudy Cardenas singing Journey smashes such as “Open Arms,” the song the performer made his TV debut with in 2007.
Released in 1975, the band's self-titled album debut Boston contains familiar and beloved songs including "Peace of Mind," "Foreplay/Long Time," "Rock and Roll Band," "Smokin'," and the group's first single "More Than a Feeling," which was a top-five hit in the United States and Canada, and a top-20 hit in Australia and Germany. The album sold 17 million copies in the U.S. and 25 million worldwide, and Boston's second album Don't Look Back, featuring the titular top-five hit as well as "A Man I'll Never Be," reached number one in the U.S., where it was a certified seven-times-platinum seller. With additional albums including Third Stage, Walk On, and Corporate America, Boston has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, making the group one of the world's best-selling artists. Altogether, the band has released six studio albums over a career spanning over 46 years, and was ranked the 63rd best hard-rock artist by VH1.
Formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch, Journey had their biggest commercial success between 1978 and 1987, when Steve Perry served as lead vocalist. They released a series of hit songs, including 1981's "Don't Stop Believin',"which in 2009 became the top-selling track in iTunes history among songs not released in the 21st century. Escape, Journey's seventh and most successful album, reached number one on the Billboard 200 and yielded another of their most popular singles, "Open Arms." According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Journey has sold 48 million albums in the U.S., making them the 25th best-selling band, and their worldwide sales have reached over 80 million records globally, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. With many of their songs arena-rock staples that are still played on radio stations around he world, a 2005 USA Today opinion poll named Journey the fifth-best U.S. rock band in history.
